Lewis Capaldi has reportedly split from his girlfriend Ellie MacDowell after two years together - and the singer is reportedly back in the studio amidst his hiatus from music.

A source told The Sun that their relationship has come to an end as the couple struggled with the distance between them and being able to make time for each other.

The insider revealed to the publication: 'Lewis and Ellie had some long conversations and decided it was best for them to end things.

'It was a mutual decision. They are still friends and have been talking, so all is not lost.

'Ellie is still based in Edinburgh and Lewis lives in London so it’s been hard for them to see each other.'

MailOnline has contacted Lewis' representatives for comment.

The Scottish singer, 27, largely kept his relationship with Ellie private, after first confirming the romance in February 2023 after the pair made a cosy appearance at the BRITs after-party.

Since then, the pair were rarely spotted together during the entirety of their romance.

The duo were most recently seen soaking in the spring sunshine as they enjoyed a day out in Hampstead back in March.

The pair kept it casual as they walked the streets before grabbing a bite to eat alongside another friend.

Earlier that month, Ellie and Lewis were last spotted out and about in North London, in their first public appearance since they were last seen together in May 2023, during a trip to Los Angeles.

It comes after The Sun revealed in June that Lewis was allegedly back in his home studio, after announcing his indefinite hiatus to focus on his mental health.

A photo obtained by the publication showed the Scotsman strumming on his guitar, suggesting he could be slowly making his way back into the industry.

At the time, Lewis was coming out of a three-week mental health hiatus he had taken to 'rest and recover'.

Returning to the stage, Lewis admitted he had been 's**t scared' to perform as he opened up about his mental health struggles, and confirmed he would be taking another break away from the spotlight after the show.

In the middle of his set, Lewis confessed that he was struggling with his Tourette's as he said his voice had 'packed it in', after he had been coughing throughout the show.

Tourette's is a neurological condition characterised by a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics, and can cause speech and voice abnormalities.

Despite his struggles, Lewis insisted on continuing with his set and his supportive fans rallied around him, with the show coming to an emotional close as the crowds sang Someone You Love for him.

The heartwarming moment saw Lewis walk across the Pyramid Stage and sing short bursts of the track, while the kind crowds sang at the top of their voices to support the star.

After his performance, Lewis took to his social media to say: 'The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write.

'I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out.

'But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.

'I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.

'Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of, so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.'

Six months later on New Year's Eve, Lewis updated fans, sharing: 'I’m really happy to say I’ve noticed a marked improvement in both since I decided to take some time off back in June.

'For now I’m going to continue taking some time to carry on looking after myself, maybe writing some music and taking a moment to reflect on some of the most incredible years of my life.

'I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100% before getting back out there again properly for more shows and doing what I love more than anything!

'These songs mean the world to me and I’d be gutted if I’d not been able to share them. Hope this tides you all over until we can get in a room and sing them together some day very soon!”

Lewis also thanked fans for their support, saying their reaction has been 'nothing I’ve ever experienced and has made me more excited than ever to return to doing what I love at some point in the not too distant future'.
