Hunter Schafer explains how she informed her religious parents about graphic Euphoria sex scene: 'I do still feel bad because that's something that they still have to deal with'

Hunter Schafer said there were some awkward moments with her religious Presbyterian parents in regards to her role on the HBO series Euphoria.

'In the first episode I'm having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,' the actress-model, 25, said Wednesday on the Call Her Daddy podcast.

The Trenton, New Jersey-born star told host Alex Cooper that she had some uncomfortable exchanges with her parents about her role of transgender teen Jules Vaughn on the HBO series, which she was cast on at the age of 20.

'I didn't tell them that I was in the audition process because I really wasn't sure that I was gonna do it,' the transgender actress said on the podcast. 'I didn't tell them until I had actually gotten the job, which kind of left them in a situation, cause I didn't really give them room to give their opinions.'

Schafer's father Marc is a pastor, while her mother Katy is a youth minister, and they preside over a North Carolina congregation Schafer described as 'little, old, nice, white Christian people from the South.'

She noted that her parents are 'on the chiller side of Christianity,' adding, 'There's this whole pastor's daughter trope - and it gets kind of tough.'

Schafer's character Jules has sex with her friend's father Cal Jacobs (played by Eric Dane) in the show's pilot episode, and is later seen engaging in an act of self-harm.

'When I had to tell my parents that I was doing a TV show, and in the first episode, I'm having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,' Schafer said on the podcast.

She continued: 'My first thought is like, "OK, they have to tell their congregation that their kid's going to be on TV."

'And then their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the South, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting butt-f*****.'

Schafer said she still feels a bit bad because 'that's something they still have to deal with.'

Schafer said that she harbors a slight bit of envy toward her peers who come from families who are in show business and more understanding of the demands of some complex roles.

Schafer said that she's also fine that they're in a 'completely separate world,' and ultimately were concerned about her health and well-being over all else.

'Even though they didn't know a lot about it,' Schafer said, 'I think they know the nature of this industry can be very intense, and they just didn't want me to get like, f***ed up by it, you know?'

Schafer said that she has some nude scenes in her recent film, the dramatic comedy Kinds of Kindness.

'You know, my movie coming out next week, Kinds of Kindness, which I'm so excited about, my one scene in it - I got my t*****s out,' Schafer said. 'I have no personal problems with it, but it is something where I'm like, some people aren't going to get it.'
