Matt Damon admits Boston culture can be 'abrasive' - as he promotes new movie set in the Massachusetts city

Matt Damon has tried to explain Boston from his hometown perspective.
The Bourne Identity actor, 53, is currently starring alongside his fellow Boston boy Casey Affleck, 48, in The Instigators.
The film was shot in and takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, and it is the first time Damon has filmed there since 2006's The Departed.
'The sense of humor and the way that people just tend to look at the world back here,' he said in an interview with People, is 'really fun when you come from it because you know what it is.'
He continued: 'It can feel abrasive to people who aren't from here. But when you're from here, it feels like, you know, a comfortable pair of socks.'

The film, which was co-written by Casey and is produced by Damon and Ben Affleck, is about 'two thieves who must go on the run with the help of one of their therapists after a robbery goes awry,' according to Deadline.
Casey talked about what it was like shooting the movie in his hometown so many years after he moved to the west coast.
'Boston has changed a lot,' he noted. 'It's really not the city that we grew up in… The whole country has changed. There's been so much change in the culture.'
He added: 'On the other hand, it's the place I still feel more at home than anywhere else.
'So that says something about what a place does to you when you're growing. I’ll forever be connected to this place no matter how much it changes.'
Damon added: 'The Instigators is a heightened reality that we've built — it's not the real world,' but, 'it is grounded enough that it feels like a Boston movie.'
The Bourne Identity's director Doug Liman helms the Apple Original Film which is in theaters now and debuts on the streamer on August 9.
The film also stars Hong Chau, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for The Whale, and Richard Jewell star Paul Walter Hauser.

Although Matt's friendship with Casey's brother Ben is better known, he and the younger sibling have appeared together in almost as many films over the years.
The were both part of the eponymous thieving ensembles in Oceans Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen, though Matt played a more prominent role along with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
They also starred in Interstellar (2014), and Oppenheimer (2023) together.
And perhaps most famously, Casey appeared in Good Will Hunting with his older brother and Damon, who co-wrote the screenplay and won the Oscar for it.
