Ariana Grande compares feeling of the spicy sauce to a 'lip plumper' as she crushes the Hot Ones challenge - and praises Cynthia Erivo's 'phenomenal' Wicked stunts

Ariana Grande appeared on the season finale of Hot Ones and proved she was a good sport who could take the heat.

'By the way, I'm not coming in proud or cocky or confident, ' she told host Sean Evans as she chewed a vegan wing with a hand over her mouth, adding, 'I'm shriveling and weak and honest.'

The Bang Bang singer, 31, also asked, 'Where do you think I'll sit on the scale from DJ Khaled to Lorde?' she asked, adding, 'I do my homework.'

DJ Khaled famously stopped at just three hot sauces, while Lorde ate the notorious Da Bomb sauce like it was nothing at all.

Evans told Ariana – who was nominated for six MTV VMAs – he thought she'd err more towards the Lorde side of the scale but after she tried Chairman Meow's hot sauce, which came in halfway through the challenge, she said 'I think I'm learning that I don't like hot sauce.'

As she made her way through the ever-increasing Scoville levels, she stopped for a moment at the 126,000 mark and said: 'I'm weirdly good at this. Am I just numb?'

'My insides definitely know something is afoot but I'm fine,' she said incredulously. 'I'm fine with the spice but my body is like "why?"'

When she was asked if there were any songs she's retired because she's sick of them, she said, there was a time when she didn't feel that gratitude for her early stardom.

'There was a time when it was hard for me to feel that same gratitude that I do now for certain songs and for the music … becoming a pop star is insane at 19 or 20, and I think that experience was sort of married to some of the songs a little bit.

'Or some of the songs that are more emotional, the experience that inspired them can be married to the music.

'But with time and therapy, we sort of are able to re-embrace, so I feel just really proud and grateful and happy when I hear them, where as I used to maybe hear it and cry.'

In between wings, she discussed working on the Wicked movies and gushed about Cynthia Erivo's stunts.

'Watching Cynthia in her harness with a broom, a hat, wig, corset, dress — the whole thing — flipping upside down, flying around the set, singing Defying Gravity every take like it's nothing … just the most phenomenal thing I've ever seen,' Grande, who plays Glinda opposite Erivo's Elphaba, said.

'We had to do some really insane and beautiful things for this film.'

And then she quipped: 'I'm talking so much because I'm delaying the inevitable,' before taking a big bite of Da Bomb, which rates 135,500 on the Scoville scale.

'Give me a moment she said,' after she took a bite and burped. 'It's weird because my tongue is aware and my brain feels like it's being involved to hover above and watch us.'

The thank u, next singer also talked about the 'disheartening and disappointing' experience of having her unreleased music leak online.

'It sucks,' she said. 'And I am constantly trying to get to the bottom of like how people get stuff … that is very frustrating and feels very dehumanizing, and then the other side is like but I'm so grateful to be an artist that people care about and my fans want more of me so they're going to these extremes to steal and break in.

She said: 'I'm scared to drink water because it might make it worse,' and noted the hot sauce felt like a 'lip plumper.'

And then she moved on to Pepper Up, rated 700,000 and called it 'disgusting,' but she was referring to the taste, not the heat.

'My insides definitely know something is afoot but I'm fine,' she said incredulously. 'I'm fine with the spice but my body is like "why?"'

The final wing, came in at 2.63 million on the Scoville scale and she didn't even flinch after taking two bites of her vegan wing.

Ariana said she was prepared with 'Tums and bananas and popsicles backstage,' and she didn't expect to sail through the challenge.
