Blake Lively dresses up as a jewel thief in glamorous Vogue shoot directed by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and featuring Hugh Jackman

Blake Lively played a jewel thief in a very glamorous Vogue shoot directed by legendary filmmaker, Baz Luhrmann.

The shoot, entitled 'The Heist of the Heart', sees Blake, 36, channel a glamorous bandit named The Cat - while Hugh Jackman, 55, co-starred as L'Ombre, a man who romantically woes the thief but is secretly attempting to get her apprehended.

In the images, The Cat hunts down a gorgeous Cartier High Jewelry necklace belonging to someone else - before she is arrested thanks to L'Ombre's efforts.

The cover sees the It Ends With Us star holding the glittering necklace as she poses in a glam black dress with her hair immaculately styled into a sweeping 'do.

Set in Monte Carlo, the story begins with The Cat, admiring her latest prize - a stolen ruby necklace which belonged to Elizabeth Taylor.

Throughout the article, a script details the glamorous tale of The Cat as she attempts to steal a Cartier necklace belonging to a Doyenne.

At a party, Blake is shown glammed up in a gold LaQuan Smith dress at a casino. L'Ombre is entranced by The Cat as he prepares to throw the dice.

However, The Cat seems more interested in the Cartier necklace worn by The Doyenne.

L'Ombre is on assignment to take down The Cat but still finds himself getting close to The Cat despite orders instructing him not to do so.

He approaches The Cat on the beach the day after the casino scene, and then the duo explore the sights on motorbike.

L'Ombre drives the motorbike as The Cat, clad in a glam polka dot dress by Dolce & Gabbana, grins with glee and holds onto him.

But eventually, she is captured by the authorities.

The final shot in the spread sees Blake being arrested, her eyes on L'Ombre. However, he manages to turn his head away from The Cat despite a longing for 'one last glance,' according to the script.

'As L'Ombre resists the urge to steal one last glance... The question lingers in the air: "What might have been?"' the script reads.

Speaking with Vogue in an interview conducted in Rome, Blake said: 'I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say Baz is my favorite director."

'I just love Baz so much. Because he celebrates love. Nobody does love like that,' she added.

Asked if Baz was the reason she decided to do the shoot, she replied: 'I’m a very shy person, so I don’t like doing photo shoots, really. Because when I’m acting, I’m playing a character. And I don’t…I don’t feel super comfortable in front of a camera. It’s part of why I don’t want to be in magazines.

'I know it’s not something I’m supposed to say—I mean, this is I think the first cover I’ve done in four years. Because I just,' she said before growing quiet and adding, 'I'm just too shy.'

'My life has become more intimate,' she said, referencing how she's been more centered on raising the three children she shares with husband Ryan Reynolds and, in turn, appearing in fewer movies.

'But when they said Baz will do it, I thought, Okay, I’ve always wanted to work with Baz. Even if it’s just a week doing a photo shoot for Vogue, that’s still working with him. Seeing through his lens and how he tells stories,' she said.

She said with a slight laugh: 'Gracing these pages is not my gift to the world. I understand I’m lucky to do it.'

Speaking of the scene in which she handles Elizabeth Taylor's necklace, she said: 'and I had Elizabeth Taylor's necklace!'

'Elizabeth Taylor’s necklace in my hand. I have to show you. So there were these people there that had these rubber covers on their fingers, and I had a foam mat below me in case the necklace fell….'

Hugh is friends with Blake's husband Ryan Reynolds and the leading men currently star opposite one another in the newly released film, Deadpool & Wolverine.

'They are megawatt stars,' Hugh told Vogue of the couple during a phone call from London. 'These are like old-school megawatt stars…and of course I’ve spent many hours with them, like in pajamas just hanging out in their house with their nine hundred children and dogs and it is just as normal as can be, and Blake will be baking and cooking and saying, "Let’s make pizza," and then the next thing you turn around,' he explained, referencing her glamming up for an event, 'and there she is, this incredible star. It’s…it’s astonishing to me.'

Blake and Ryan have been married since 2012 and share three children together: daughters Inez, seven, Betty, four, and son Olin, one.
