About this audiobook

This is a multicast program.

"A spellbinding story about what may transpire when the natural world collides with a legacy of witchcraft."

—Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The Lost Apothecary

"Narrators Aysha Kala, Helen Keeley, and Nell Barlow are a magical, moving trio. Their emotional and expressive performance of the parallel narratives ranges from touching and timid to tense and twisting."- Library Journal

I am a Weyward, and wild inside.

2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great aunt she barely remembers. With its tumbling ivy and overgrown garden, the cottage is worlds away from the abusive partner who tormented Kate. But she begins to suspect that her great aunt had a secret. One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd. As a girl, Altha’s mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world. But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence for witchcraft is set out against Altha, she knows it will take all of her powers to maintain her freedom.

1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family's grand, crumbling estate. Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives––and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom.

Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart's Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world.

3 generations of women, 3 different stories of survival and strength.

This book eloquently describes some of the most difficult cruelties that some women have had to endure throughout the ages. What it means to be a Weyward woman. The way Emilia takes a word that definition has shifted in the ages and brings it back to something amazing and beautiful. This book touched on very difficult subjects and definitely check your content warnings before reading. Though I feel it does vilify all men which is counterproductive. I overall thought it was emotional and touching novel that was beautifully written. The multi pov can be difficult so I would definitely recommend immersion reading with the audio. The audio is narrated beautifully and completely brought the story to life.

Absolutely stunning story with history interwoven with three women from different generations. So well written . Poignant with enough suspense to keep the story moving but not overly dramatic or forced. The audio version was so well performed with excellent voices and well done narration.

SO BORING. Nothing happens for the first 2/3 or the novel. The characters are all so one dimensional and the 'plot twists' are all super predictable.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t know what to expect when I started this book, so my expectations were pretty low. But boy did I end up loving this book. I was a bit confused at first by how all 3 women were related. But as time went on and the threads connecting them were revealed, everything clicked. It was like a duh of course moment. I loved the main characters. They were such strong independent women, even if they didn’t always feel that way. The magic of it all was truly brilliant, subtle yet fierce. This book was a prime example of magical realism with strong females done superbly. If only we could all be Weyward.

Wow…poignant & beautifully written. Although a magical, fanciful book with many twists & turns, there’s also a dark historical undertone, woven through generations & threaded together by familial ties & circumstances, that also gives this story somber credibility.

This book is one of the best books I’ve read this year. The author has done such a fantastic job telling the story of three women related through time. I love this story and all women, especially those who have been in trouble relationships with dominating men, should read it. It will make you feel better and give you courage.

This isn't the type of story I usually listen. To, but it was truly a great book. The story of these women and their struggles all being similar and yet different show the true strength of women throughout the ages. It isn't fantastical like so many witch books, and yes still just as intriguing.

Although this book is full of sad and terrible moments, I think it's a beautiful story of the strength of women and the connection they have to nature and to each other. It reminded me a little of Practical Magic, but much darker. We see women being oppressed and abused by men who are afraid of their power and want to control and dominate them. But we also see women supporting each other. We see the unconditional love of friendship between women, and we see women passing down courage and strength through generations.

The tone suits the setting and plot. It’s gothic. In a sequel, I’d like a very kind man to help with a woman’s progression to happiness. The connection between women is powerful, as is any stinging bee, male or female.
