About this audiobook

"As narrator, the terrific Laser, an actress and puppeteer, only enhances the swoon-worthy quirks and romance." —Vulture

A propulsive and uncommonly wise novel about one unexpected wedding guest and the surprising people who help her start anew.

It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebe and Phoebe's plan—which makes it that much more surprising when the two women can’t stop confiding in each other.

In turns absurdly funny and devastatingly tender, Alison Espach’s The Wedding People is ultimately an incredibly nuanced and resonant look at the winding paths we can take to places we never imagined—and the chance encounters it sometimes takes to reroute us.

I hated this book with passion. Not a fan of depicting women as weak as the protagonist is depicted. Her entire life is surrounded by the idea of men and her ability to have children. Finished it because of my book club.

It’s a really wonderful book for anyone who wants to dive into themselves. It’s deep and kind of painful sometimes. It’s moving and when it’s over you’re sad because it’s over but happy because of Phoebe. I’ll probably listen to this book once a year, to help me guide back to myself. It’s not self help though. It’s much better.

Surprisingly now probably one of my favorites. I did not read what this book was about before starting it and ended up not being able to stop. A great story about life changing in a blink and living in the discomfort of it.

As the author said: „she got very well at predicting the end of the books“ well this was a very predictable book, no mastery or surprise whatsoever. Quite dull I am afraid.

The narrator did a great job with his book. The author‘s voice coming through is witty, sincere, heart, wrenching, irreverent, and poignant. I fell in love with Phoebe and really all the characters that were part of the wedding. The author does such a fantastic job of developing these characters and giving them such dynamic personalities. It’s shocking when you come to the end of this book and realize that this entire novel takes place over the course of six or seven days. It is a book. I absolutely recommend. It’s real, raw, poignant, heartbreaking, uplifting, and fulfilling.

In a way somehow I felt like I was connected to Phoebe, I really enjoyed listening to each sentence of this novel. I did not expect that would end this way. Though I truly loved Phoebe‘s character, she was unique, bold, extrovert, and genuine.

    DNF at 36 %

This was really bad and not funny AT ALL. This was mostly the monologue of a woman who went through a divorce after her EX-husband cheated, and I emphasize the EX because she KEEPS referring to the guy as her husband throughout the entire book, which is extremely annoying. The protagonist was very unlikeable and the freaking flashbacks to her life with her ex-husband were driving crazy. I was promised a funny book with dark humor, and I am all in for that but this was very very dry.

It is not worth, the audiobook is not worth, this was a total waste of time and from reviews on GR, the book does not get any better. This was so bad that at 16 % I was thinking that the main character dying might make things better, that is how bad it was.

I really needed this book. It's light and funny but it is about those darkest days of our life when you know the change is waiting to happen, but you need to step into it and make it happen.
