About this audiobook
A REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK | A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
“Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall is an unforgettable story of love, loss, and the choices that shape our lives…but it’s also a masterfully crafted mystery that will keep you guessing until the very last page. Seriously, that ending?! I did not see it coming.” —Reese Witherspoon
“Stirring and mysterious…fires directly at the human heart and hits the mark.” —Delia Owens, New York Times bestselling author of Where the Crawdads Sing
A love triangle unearths dangerous, deadly secrets from the past in this thrilling tale perfect for fans of The Paper Palace and Where the Crawdads Sing.
“The farmer is dead. He is dead, and all anyone wants to know is who killed him.”
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.
As Beth is pulled back into Gabriel’s life, tensions around the village rise and dangerous secrets and jealousies from the past resurface, this time with deadly consequences. Beth is forced to make a choice between the woman she once was, and the woman she has become.
A sweeping love story with the pace and twists of a thriller, Broken Country is a novel of simmering passion, impossible choices, and explosive consequences that toggles between the past and present to explore the far-reaching legacy of first love.

What a relief to listen to a well written story! To me, the fact that I had a strong sense of minor characters says it all. Character development with a single stroke of the right color! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Easily one of the top three best books I’ve read in longer than I can recall. Brilliant writing that draws you in from chapter one. Every page feels real and honest. The writing and story flows easily and so subtlety yet you can’t wait to drink in every page. This is the book I’ve been waiting to discover every time I began a new novel. It’s one of those books that you long to crack open every day, yet, in the end, you know that this story couldn’t have been told any other way nor ended in any other way. And that leaves you feeling so satisfied when close the back cover, you realize this story, through the joy and the heartbreak, left you with a sense of content acceptance in its closure. I loved both the written and audiobook but, Hattie Morahan delivers an amazing piece of storytelling that left me feeling like the story was written for her voice. It’s a book that will stay with me for a long time. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5

I do not understand the high rating of this book! The characters are awful, and I can’t get behind romanticizing an affair. Plot is derivative and quite frankly drags on and on. Not for me but to each their own. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Compelling. A lurid beauty impossible to overt your attention from. Heartbreak and hope. Endings and beginnings. Chaos and Logic. These things become indistinguishable in ourselves until we are left alone with our own secrets and truth, however small or infinitely large. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5
