Abstract
371,668. Cable joints ; cable end sleeves. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. June 12, 1931, No. 17152. Convention date, July 4, 1930. [Classes 36 and 38 (i).] A multicore cable of the kind in which each core 1, 2 is lead-sheathed and the whole enclosed in a main lead sheath 4, is fitted with a cap 7 that covers the end of the main sheath 4 and has tubular extensions 13 through which the cores emerge. The cap is closed oiltight round the lead sheaths of the cores and round the main core by soldered collars to prevent the oil in the cable spaces entering the joint casing 3. The oil from one cable length may be placed in connection with the next cable length by a pipe 10 either connected to an aperture 9 in the cap 7 and lying within the casing 3, or connected to unions let into the main lead sheath and lying outside the casing 3. A cable end casing may be similarly constructed the pipe 10 in this case leading to an expansion chamber. Specifications 347,410 and 365,271 are referred to.
