Abstract
687,464. Cables. FORGES ET ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE JEUMONT. Sept. 10, 1951 [Oct. 19, 1950], No. 21258/51. Class 36. A high-tension fluid-filled cable is provided with an internal pressure compensating device comprising a flexible tubular core formed from short rigid sections placed end-to-end which are provided with openings for the circulation of the fluid and which enclose and give complete protection to, fluid-tight, gas-filled elastic compensators. The sections 12 may each have end walls 13, 14, one or both of which has a convex external surface. Bellows 15, having one end closed, are secured at the other end in a fluid-tight manner to wall 14, in which a valve 17 is provided for filling the bellows with gas. The end wall 13 acts as an axial stop for the closed end of bellows 15, and is provided with holes 19 for the passage of the insulating fluid. One of the end walls of each section 12 may be provided with a central boss 22 which fits into a complementary orifice in the end wall of the adjacent section. The sections may lie within the stranded tubular conductor of a single core cable, or they may be assembled within a flexible pervious pipe 23 which is laid up together with the cable cores.
