[Class 38 (i).] A submarine cable is attached to the casing of a joint or coil by anchoring the armouring wires to an articulated joint. The armouring wires pass over a ring 9 and through slots in the conical member 10 that fits over a cone 8 screwed to the neck 7 of a ball 6 that moves in a socket 3, restrained by a pin 4 and slot 5. The ball is hollow to contain the slack of the conductors. A tapered member 11 secured to the member 10 fits over the socket 3. Specifications 200,830 and 334,076, [both in Class 38 (i), Electric couplings &c.], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a modification in which the wires 8, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), are lead over a ring 9 that is held within a ball 7 by a ring 11. The ball 7 moves in a socket 6, rotation being prevented by a pin 12 and groove 13. The conductors are enclosed in sleeves 3 of guttapercha joined to a similar watertight covering 2 enclosing the joint or coil casing 1. The conductors 3 are slack in a space formed by rectangular wire armouring 14. A tapered member of rubber may enclose the cable end. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
