Abstract
416,695. Cable joints; cable end constructions. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., BRAZIER, L. G., and STIENON, M., Hamilton House, Victoria Embankment, London, and ALLCOCK, H. J., c/o Callender's Cable & Construction Co., Belvedere, Kent. June 1, 1933, No. 15847. [Classes 36 and 38 (i).] The ends of high-tension cables are formed or fitted with a series of conducting layers G embedded in insulation F, the inner layers lying nearer to the end of the cable core B, so that as the insulation is tapered off in making a joint a layer of conducting material is exposed at each step and is secured by a wrapping of tape R. The joint C, which may be of the spring plug type, and a substantial portion of the tapered ends of the cables are surrounded by a sleeve N of rigid dielectric material secured between rings O in a conducting tube M connected with the cable sheaths H. If the layers G are formed in the cable end during manufacture the diameter of the cable is increased at that part. The joint C is positioned by a disc D held between rings E of tape and the tube M has an end piece L connected to the tube M and sheath H by plumbed joints. According to the Provisional Specification, the sleeve N can be tapered to fit closely to the pencilled ends of the cables, and the tube M can then be of about the same diameter as the cable sheaths.
