Abstract
242,356. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Aug. 7, 1924. Junction boxes; earth-continuity couplings.- A joint for sheathed cable is enclosed in an outer casing 15 within which is a ground shield 11 of coiled wire or other metal electrically connected to a flange 12 on a disc 6 that is jointed to the sheath 3. The shield 11 is flared to fit over added insulation 10 of cambric or paper tape impregnated with petrolatum, similar to the insulation 2 of the cable. The cable insulation 2 is cut away to expose the adjacent ends of the cables 1, 1', which are joined by a soldered sleeve 8 and covered with insulation 9. The form of the surface 4, 5, 13 is such as to give a uniform potential gradient between the cable and the casing 15. The filling oil or compound 20 is introduced through a distributing chamber 17.
