Abstract

812,559. Two-part couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Dec. 19, 1956 [Dec. 20, 1955], No. 36550/55. Class 38 (1). In a junction box for an armoured cable having insulating sheaths 4, 5, the two layers of armouring 6, 7 are separated by a sleeve 48 and are clamped between an inner member 49 and an outer member 41 which is part of an end cap 61 for a one-piece casing 25, member 49 and casing 25 each having four wedge-shaped projections 63, 64 respectively which engage as cap 61 is bolted on to casing 25, and also position member 49 with respect to casing 25. During assembly, member 49 is so positioned that projections 63 pass through the gaps 69 between projections 64, and the member 49 is subsequently rotated. Each cable conductor 1 is secured in a contact block 10 formed with a slotted socket 12 reinforced by a spring collar 17. An insulating tube 19 surrounds each contact block and passes through apertures 22 in three discs 23. A screw plug 34 permits the filling of the casing with sealing compound. In the embodiment of Fig. 7, the cable embodies metallic tape 72, and connection between the tape and the member 49 is made through a clamp 73, a flexible conductor 76 and a lug 80 which is bolted to member 49. In another embodiment (Figs. 8-13, not shown) the cable has inner and outer lead sheaths, a layer of bedding material covering the inner sheath, and a serving the outer sheath, or metal tape may replace the inner sheath. The construction is otherwise similar.
