Abstract

871,697. Couplings. SIMMONDS & STOKES (NIPHAN) Ltd. July 9, 1959 [July 30, 1958], No. 24514/58. Class 38 (1). A gland for an electric cable having armouring 4 disposed between inner and outer insulating sheaths 12, 8 comprises a body 1 for attachment to equipment such as a coupling 3, formed with a conical seating on to which the armouring 4 is clamped by a cone ring 5, and packing rings 6, 9 with backing rings 7, 10 co-operating with conical seatings in a cap 2 and body 1 respectively for compression on to the outer and inner sheaths 8, 12. The rigid parts of the gland have bores larger than the outer sheath so that such parts may be supported by the cable, prior to assembly, in a position where they do not hinder connection of the cable conductors 11. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the body is in two parts and the cone ring has a diameter less than that of the outer sheath but is split radially or otherwise for subsequent assembly over the inner sheath.
