III. PROCEDURES
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
PRAYER
- Everybody stand up. Please lead the prayer
Student 1.
- Let’s bow down our heads in the loving
presence of God. In the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit……….
Amen.
GREETINGS / CLASS
ARRANGEMENT
- Good morning class
- Good morning Miss Sotelo.
- Before you take your seats, kindly pick up the
pieces of paper you can see inside the classroom
and put it in the trash bins.
- Yes Ma’am.
(After a minute)
- You may now take your seats.
- Thank you Ma’am.
ATTENDANCE
- Before anything else, let me check your
attendance first. Say PRESENT when your - (The students say PRESENT as the teacher
name is called. calls their name)
MOTIVATION
- So, before we proceed to our new lesson this
morning, let’s play a short game first. It is
called YES-NO-STAND-UP game.
- Do you want to play that game class?
- Yes Ma’am.
- Okay! So, in this game I’ll give you some
questions that are answerable by YES or NO.
If your answer is YES, then you need to stand
up and answering NO, means sit down.
- Do you understand class?
- Yes Ma’am.
- So, let’s begin.
(The teacher will ask some random questions to
check the knowledge of students)
QUESTIONS:
1. Do you love math? - (Students Perform: Some of them stands up
2. Do you love factorials? and some of them also answers No, means
3. Does quadratic equations is the same with they remain sitting down in every question)
quadratic expressions?
4. Is there any difference between linear equation
and quadratic equation?
5. 5 x 2−8 x , is an example of quadratic equation?
(After the game)
- Yes Ma’am.
- Okay, very good.
B. LESSON PROPER
- Again our lesson for today is all about Solving - (Students listening attentively)
Quadratic Equation by Factoring. So, so far
you have learned in your previous lessons how
to solve linear equations which include
constant terms–plain numbers-and terms with
the variable raised to the first power.
- So now class, what do you call an equation
containing a second degree polynomial?
- Quadratic Equation Ma’am.
- Very good Student 4.
- And what is the standard form of a quadratic
equation?
- A quadratic equation is written in standard
form, where a, b, and c are real numbers and is
arranged in descending order from highest to
lowest power.
- Very well said, Student 5.
- Okay class, so this morning we’re going to - (Students listening attentively)
learn how to solve quadratic equation. And we
know that there are different ways to solve
quadratic equations, but for the time being, we
shall deal only with quadratic equations that
can be factored (factorized). And applying
those factoring techniques that are mentioned
by your classmates earlier where necessary,
and by using the Principle of Zero Products.
- By the way class, who among you know the
Principle of Zero Products? Yes Student 1.
- The Principle of Zero Products states that if
two numbers a and b have a product of 0, then
one or both of them is equal to 0.
- Alright very good Student 1.
- So class, the Principle of Zero Products has
big implications for solving quadratic
equations. If you have a factored polynomial
that is equal to 0, you know that at least one of - (Students listening attentively)
the factors or both factors are equal to 0.
- So, to apply this rule in solving quadratic
equation by factoring, we must follow the
following steps.
SOLUTION:
2
Step 1: Write the x + 4 x−5=0
quadratic equation
in standard form
2
a x +bx +c=0
Step 2: Factor ( x +5 ) ( x−1 )=0
completely
Step 3: Apply the x +5=0∨¿x−1=0
Zero Product Rule
Step 4: Solve the x=−5∨x=1
linear equations in
step 3
Step 5: Check 2
x + 4 x−5=0 x=−5
(−5 )2 + 4 (−5 )−5=0
25+ (−20 )−5=00=0
x=1
12 +4 (1 )−5=0
1+4−5=00=0

equation?

y−9=0
y=9
- You transposed the positive 5 to the right side
- Did you get it class? of the equation Ma’am, then, you divide it by
2 to get the value of y.
- Therefore, these two values are the solution to
the original quadratic equation. So my answer
is:
−5
y= y=9
2
- But I’m not done yet, because the original
exercise told us to “check”, which means that
we need to plug our answers back into the
original equation, and make sure it comes out - Yes Ma’am.
right.
- So let’s check if our answer is correct.

- Are we correct?
- Is it clear now?
- Yes Ma’am.
- Yes Ma’am.
C. APPLICATION
- From this time class, I want you to solve here
in the board. I want two volunteers.
- (students raising their hands)
- Yes Student 6 and Student 7.
- (they go to the board and solve the given
equations)
Solve each quadratic equation by factoring
1. −2 x 2+6 x=0 - Student 6 1.
Solution:
−2 x +6 x=0−2 x ( x−3 )=0−2 x=0∨x−3=0
2
−2 x 0 x−3=0
−2 x=0 =
−2 −2 x−3+3=0+3x=3
x=0
- Student 7 2.
Solution:
x + 3 x −10=0 ( x +5 ) ( x−2 )=0
2
x +5=0∨x−2=0
2. x 2+ 3 x −10=0
x +5=0 x +5−5=0−5 x−2=0x−2+2=0+2
x=−5 x=2
- The final answers are x=−5∧x=2
- Yes Ma’am.
- Yes Ma’am.
- Alright. Very good. Thank you Student 6 and 7 - None so far Ma’am.
.
- Let’s give five claps to Student 6 and Student
7.
IV. EVALUATION
- I think you already understood our topic
for today. So, now get 1 whole sheet of
paper and solve the following quadratic
equation. This activity is good for 20
minutes only.
EXPECTED ANSWERS:
1. { x=3 , x=6}
2. { x=−4 , x=−1}
3. {n=8 , n=−8}
4. {b=0 , b=−5 }
−3 −1
5. {n= , n= }
7 5
(After 20 mins)
- (students followed)
- If you’re done, pass your paper to the
person in front of you.
V. ASSIGNMENT
- Now, class for your assignment, study in
advance about how to solve quadratic
equation by Completing the Square. That
will be our next lesson for the next
meeting.
- By the way, that’s another method or way
of solving quadratic equation.
- Do you understand class?
- Yes Ma’am.
- Okay, keep your things and pick up the - (Students cooperate)
pieces of paper before leaving.
- Goodbye class!
- Goodbye and thank you Ms. Sotelo.
