DETAILED LESSON PLAN

I. OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
a. Identify and explain the parts of multiplication.
b. Follow the different rules of multiplication.
c. Know how to solve problem using multiplication.

II. SUBJECT MATTER:

a. Topic: Multiplying of Whole Numbers.
b. Reference:

c. Teaching Strategy: Inquiry-Based Instruction.
d. Materials: Manila papers, Marker, Chalk and Chalk Board.

III. PROCEDURE:

Dear Father in heaven, please help us today,
to be kind and good always, when at work or at
play, Amen.

b. Greetings

Good Morning children! Good Morning Ma’am!

arrange chairs and sit properly. The students will follow…

d. Checking of Attendance

Once I called your name say present

if you are around. (teacher start calling
students name) Present Ma’am.

B. REVIEW

Okay class, before we move on to our

new lesson, let us first recapitulate the
previous lesson.
Did you still remember our last topic? Yes Ma’am!

Very Good!
Mr. Dela Cruz, what was our topic last Our topic last meeting was all about creating
meeting. problems involving addition and subtraction.
Very Good!
C. MOTIVATION
Now, let’s play a game.
Group yourselves into three. The students will group themselves.
Each group should have a
representative to write the correct
answer on the board. I will just only
read the problem twice.
Are you ready? Yes Ma’am!
Here’s the problem.
I’ve bought three ball pens, each of
them was worth seven pesos.
How much did I pay? Group 1: twelve pesos
Group 2: ten pesos
Group 3: twenty-one pesos
Very Good!
Group 3 got the correct answer.

D. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON

And now, our topic for today is about
Multiplying of Whole Numbers.

E. LESSON PROPER
ACTIVITY
Let see how much did you know about
our lesson for today. Answer this
activity.

You have 10 mins to answer this activity.
Okay, let’s check your work. (Teacher will check
the student’s work.)
ANALYSIS
(teacher will post the correct answer on the
board)

Who got the correct answer? We are Ma’am!

How did you come up with the correct answer? We multiplied it using calculator.

Is there any method aside from multiplication We added the multiplicand times the number
to come up with the correct answer? of the multiplier.

Very Good! Whatever method you used, it is

important to understand the process of
multiplication.

Addition is the process of combining a number

of individual items together to form a new total.
This means that in multiplication groups are
created to represent the numbers being
multiplied.
And then the groups are added together to
produce a total. Relating addition to
multiplication is relatively simple.

Did you get it class? Yes Ma’am!

ABSTRACTION

Okay let’s check your activity.

Let us answer no.1.
8
1. x 3
=

Eight multiplied by three is equal to? Twenty-four Ma’am.

Very Good!
Entering 8x3 on the calculator displays the
answer twenty-four.

What is multiplication? It is the process or skill of multiplying.

Very Good!
Multiplication is the process of calculating the
total of one number multiplied by another.
What are the parts of multiplication? Multiplicand X Multiplier= Product
Very Good!

MULTIPLICAND
X MULTIPLIER
= PRODUCT
What is Multiplicand? A number to by multiply by another.

Very Good!
Multiplicand is the quantity that is multiplied by
another (the multiplier).

In vertical column method of multiplication, the

multiplier is the number on top.

What is multiplier? Multiplier is the factor that implies the base

value of something else.
Very Good!
Multiplier is the factor that implies or increase
the value of something else.

For example, in the multiplication statement

3x4=12 the multiplier implies the value of 4 to
12.

The Product of 3x4=12

What is Product? Product is the answer to multiplication

question.
Very Good!
Product is a number that you get to by
multiplying two or more other numbers
together. For example, if you multiply 2 and 5
together, you get a product of 10.

There are rules in multiplication. (Teacher will

post the visual aid on the board.)

Kindly read the rules in multiplication.

1. Any number times zero (0) is always
zero (0). Any number times zero (0) is always zero (0).

The multiplier is the number of times that a

multiplicand appears. Therefore, if a
multiplicand appears 0 times, it does not exist.

2. Any number times one is always the Any number times one is always the same
same number. number.

Similar to the rule of zero (0), if a number

appears only once, it doesn’t change. In the
problem 4x1, for example the product is always
four.

3. Add zero (0) onto the original number Add zero (0) onto the original number when
when multiplying by 10. multiplying by 10.
This shortcut allow for quick solutions of
expressions involving 10. For example, to solve
34x10, simply add a zero (0) onto the end of 34
to get an answer of 340.
Take note class that this rule applies to all
multiplies of 10, including 100, 1,000 and so on.

4. The order of factors does not affect the The order of factors does not affect the
product. product.

Switching the roles of multiplier and

multiplicand results in the some answer, for
instance, having three groups of five oranges
results in 15 oranges does having the five
groups of three oranges.

Did you get it? Yes Ma’am!

5. Products are always positive when Products are always positive when multiplying
multiplying numbers with the same numbers with the same sign.
sign.

Therefore, in the expression -2x-4, the product

would be positive eight (8). The same is true
when the factors are positive two and positive
four.

6. Products are always negative when Products are always negative when multiplying
multiplying numbers with different numbers with different signs.
signs.

This means that when you multiply a negative

number by a positive number, the result is
negative.

Did you get it children? Yes teacher!

APPLICATION
So, are you ready now? Yes Ma’am!

problems on the board.)

board, and those who are sitting, you will
answer it on your answer sheet.
