Claims (14)
- 양의 유전 이방성을 갖고 키랄물질을 포함하는 네마틱 액정의 액정층으로서 상기 액정층은 160∼300°의 꼬임각을 제공하기 위해 실질적으로 평행하게 배치된 배향층을 각각 가지며 투명 전극을 갖는 한쌍의 기판 사이에 끼워 넣어진 액정층, 액정층을 끼워넣은 기판에 부착된 전극간에 전압을 인가하는 구동수단, 액정층 외측에 배치된 한쌍의 편광판, 및 액정층 및 상기 액정층의 적어도 한쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 제공된 적어도 하나의 복굴절판으로 구성된 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 액정층의 액정 분자의 굴절율의 이방성 △n1및 액정층의 두께 d1의 곱 △n1·d1이 0.4∼1.5μm의 범위에 있고, 상기 복굴절판이 3개의 주굴절율 nx,ny및 nz는 nx≥nzny[여기서, nx및 ny는 각각 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단 nxny), nz는 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계에 있음을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 양의 유전 이방성을 갖고 키랄물질을 포함하는 네마틱 액정의 액정층으로서 상기 액정층은 160∼300°의 꼬임각을 제공하기 위해 실질적으로 평행하게 배치된 배향층을 각각 가지며 투명 전극을 갖는 한쌍의 기판 사이에 끼워 넣어진 액정층, 액정층을 끼워넣은 기판에 부착된 전극간에 전압을 인가하는 구동수단, 액정층 외측에 배치된 한쌍의 편광판 및 액정층 및 상기 액정층의 적어도 한쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 제공된 적어도 하나의 복굴절판으로 구성된 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 액정층의 액정 분자의 굴절율의 이방성 △n1및 액정층의 두께 d1의 곱 △n1·d1이 0.4∼1.5μm의 범위에 있고, 상기 복굴절판은 서로 직교하는 3 방향에서 3개의 다른 굴절율을 가지며, 복굴절판의 3개의 주굴절율 nx,ny및 nz는 nxnzn|y[여기서, nx및 ny는 각각 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단 nxny), nz는 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계에 있는 이축 복굴절판임을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 이축 복굴절판은 액정층 및 액정층의 한쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 배치함을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 이축 복굴절판은 액정층 및 액정층의 양쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 배치함을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 이축 복굴절판의 굴절율이 (nz-ny)/(nx-ny)0.1임을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 양의 유전 이방성을 갖고 키랄물질을 포함하는 네마틱 액정의 액정층으로서 상기 액정층은 160∼300°의 꼬임각을 제공하기 위해 실질적으로 평행하게 배치된 배향층을 각각 가지며 투명 전극을 갖는 한쌍의 기판 사이에 끼워 넣어진 액정층, 액정층을 끼워넣은 기판에 부착된 전극간에 전압을 인가하는 구동수단, 액정층 외측에 배치된 한쌍의 편광판 및 액정층 및 상기 액정층의 적어도 한쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 제공된 적어도 하나의 복굴절판으로 구성된 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 액정층의 액정 분자의 굴절율의 이방성 △n1및 액정층의 두께 d1의 곱 △n1·d1이 0.4∼1.5μm의 범위에 있고, 상기 복굴절판은 복굴절판의 3개의 주굴절율 nx,ny및 nz는 nx=nzny[여기서, nx및 ny각각은 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고, nz는 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계에 있는 단일축 복굴절판임을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서, 상기 단일축 복굴절판은 액정층 및 액정층의 한쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 배치함을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서, 단일축 복굴절판은 액정층 및 액정층의 양쪽에 있는 평광판 사이에 배치함을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 양의 유전 이방성을 갖고 키랄물질을 포함하는 네마틱 액정의 액정층으로서 상기 액정층은 160∼300°의 꼬임각을 제공하기 위해 실질적으로 평행하게 배치된 배향층을 각각 가지며 투명 전극을 갖는 한쌍의 기판 사이에 끼워 넣어진 액정층, 액정층을 끼워넣은 기판에 부착된 전극간에 전압을 인가하는 구동수단, 액정층 외측에 배치된 한쌍의 편광판 및 액정층 및 상기 액정층의 적어도 한쪽 또는 양쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 제공된 복수의 복굴절판으로 구성된 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 액정층의 액정 분자의 굴절율의 이방성 △n1및 액정층의 두께 d1의 곱 △n1·d1이 0.4∼1.5μm의 범위에 있고, 상기 복수의 복굴절판은 nx1ny1및 nz1[여기서, nx1,n|y1,nz1은 복굴절판의 3개의 주굴절율을 나타내며, nx2및 ny2는 각각 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단 nx2=ny2), nz2은 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계를 제공하기 위해 필름 두께 방향으로 광축을 갖는 적어도 하나의 단일축 복굴절판으로 구성되며, 상기 복수의 복굴절판은 nxnzny[식중에서, 판의 두께를 고려하여 복수의 복굴절판의 직교하는 3방향으로의 산술적 평균의 주굴절율을 nx,ny및 nz로 나타내고, nx및 ny는 각각 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단 nxny), nz는 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계를 갖도록 배치됨을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제9항에 있어서, 상기 복굴절판의 굴절율이 (nz-ny)/(nx-ny)≥0.1 임을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 양의 유전 이방성을 갖고 키랄물질을 포함하는 네마틱 액정의 액정층으로서 상기 액정층은 160∼300°의 꼬임각을 제공하기 위해 실질적으로 평행하게 배치된 배향층을 각각 가지며 투명 전극을 갖는 한쌍의 기판 사이에 끼워 넣어진 액정층, 액정층을 끼워넣은 기판에 부착된 전극간에 전압을 인가하는 구동수단, 액정층 외측에 배치된 한쌍의 편광판 및 액정층 및 상기 액정층의 양쪽에 있는 편광판 사이에 제공된 복굴절판으로 구성된 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 액정층의 액정분자의 굴절율의 이방성 △n1및 액정층의 두께 d1의 곱 △n1·d1이 0.4∼1.5μm의 범위에 있고, 상기 복수의 복굴절판은 nx1ny1=nz1[여기서, nx1,ny1및 nz1은 복굴절판의 3개의 주굴절율을 나타내고, nx1및 ny1은 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단, nx1ny1), nz1은 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계를 제공하기 위해 그의 평면에 광축을 각각 갖는 제1단일축 복굴절판, 및 nz2nx2=ny2[여기서 nx2,ny2,nz2는 단일축 복굴절판의 주굴절율을 나타내고, nx2및 ny2는 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단 nx2=ny2), nz2은 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계를 제공하기 위해 필름 두께 방향으로 광축을 각각 갖는 제2단일축 복굴절판으로 구성되어 있고, 액정층의 양쪽에 제공된 복굴절판은 한쌍의 제2단일축 복굴절판 사이에 하나의 제1단일축 복굴절판을 끼워 넣음으로써 형성된 적층 복굴절판으로 구성되며, 상기 적층 복굴절판은 0.1≤(nz-ny)/(nx-ny)≤3[여기서, 판의 두께를 고려하여 적층 복굴절판의 직교하는 3방향으로의 산술적 평균의 주굴절율은 nx,ny및 nz이고, nx및 ny는 각각 복굴절판의 필름 평면 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타내고(단 nxny), nz는 복굴절판의 필름 두께 방향으로의 굴절율을 나타냄]의 관계를 갖도록 배치됨을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 색 필터가 셀에 형성됨을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 색 필터는 2색을 갖는 색 필터임을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제12항에 있어서, 전극을 갖는 각각의 기판은 기판, 그 위에 형성된 색 필터 및 색 필터 위에 형성된 전극으로 구성됨을 특징으로 하는 액정 디스플레이 장치.
