Abstract
480,972. Yarn swifts. HOLT, R. Nov. 7, 1936, No. 30363. [Class 120 (ii)] In a swift of the kind comprising adjustable skein-carrying arms 16 pivoted at one end 17 near the circumference of a rotatable disc 11 and passing through slots in a rim or flange 14 surrounding the circumference of the disc and movable therearound, the rim or flange is non- continuous and the contiguous ends are provided with means for tightening the rim or flange on the disc after it has been turned around to adjust the extent the arms 16 project from the disc. As shown each of the contiguous ends of the rim or flange are formed with a curl or eye 19, 20 less than half the width of the rim and a bolt 22 extends through the eyes and a U-clip 21 disposed between them and embracing the disc ; the clip is tightened on to the disc after the arms have been adjusted by a manually-operable fly-nut 23 on the bolt 22. In a modification the contiguous ends of the rim or flange are each formed with a curl or eye rather less in width than half the width of the rim and disposed so as to engage opposite faces of the discs so that they can be tightened against the faces of the disc by a bolt passing through the curls and a slot in the disc. In a further modification the ends of the rim or flange are formed with upwardly-directed parts which are slightly separated and can be drawn together to clamp the rim on to the periphery of the disc by a bolt passing through the upwardly-directed parts.
