[Class 87 (ii).] A mould for producing artificial stone from ceramic or similar masses comprises two side walls 2, 3 immovably mounted on a baseplate 1 -and two other side walls 6, 7 pivoted about axes 4, 5 on the free ends of the walls 2, 3 so that they open and close to release the moulded stone, their free ends abutting in the closed position. The baseplate 1 projects beyond the side walls 6, 7 and a space is left between the bottom of the side walls and the base in order to avoid obstruction on opening the mould. Insertions 12 are employed for forming blocks of various shapes. The mould is held closed by a hook 8 which engages a shoulder 10 on the wall 7 and is retained by a spring 9 until released by a hand-lever 11. In a modification, Fig. 5, an eccentric 13, operated by a lever 14, presses the free end 15 of one side wall against a recess 17 of the other. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the hook 20 is maintained closed by a spring 19 and is further tightened by a lever 23 which carries the hook on a shaft 22 eccentrically mounted on the trunnion 24. To open the mould the hook 20 is first loosened by turning the lever 23 and then, on continued movement, the hook is disengaged by an abutment 27, secured to the shaft 22, which engages a projection 28 on the hook.
