380,432. Tamping-apparatus for use in moulding refractory bricks &c. LUX, E., 202, Rellinghauserstrasse, Essen, DANIELS, W. H., 174, Pestalozzistrasse, and KUHN, E., Am Hochofen, both in Heerdt, Dusseldorf, both in Germany.- (Assignees of Koppers Akt.-Ges., H. ; 29, Moltkestrasse, Essen, Germany.) April 15, 1931, No. 11216. Convention date, April 16, 1930. [Class 87 (ii).] Refractory bricks or the like are moulded from a crumbly mixture of non-plastic refractory and granular material, free from clay or having a low clay content, which is reduced to plasticity in a stationary mould by percussions imparted to the material by means of a covering plate which fits the recess in the top of the mould. In the illustrated form the moulding box 14 is closed by the piston 16 which engages closely with the interchangeable steel lining 3. The upper end of the piston-rod 7 is vibrated by a pneumatic hammer 17, preferably delivering more than 2000 blows per minute, which is mounted adjustably on the guides 18. In operation the hammer-frame is held in contact with the rod 7 by the handoperated lever 28, and is restored by the balance weight 29 to the top of the guides 18 on release of the hand-lever. Several smaller pistons may operate simultaneously on the single covering plate in the case of large articles. Specification 291,523, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], is referred to.
