Be it known that l, U'r'ro l lFlN H; Kl), ol- .Now Utrecht, New York, have invented a new and original. Design for Carpets, of which the fol lowiugis aspecification, rclterencc beinghad to the accompanying plu'itograph, which t'ormsa part of the same.

Theinvcntion relatostoadesigntobc worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets orsimilar fabrics; and it consists in the novel cmiflgnration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.

The accompanying photograph is a lace view of a carpet showing my new design.

The design consists 01' live closolyuiassed groups upon a ground resemhli ng lace borderwork. The small figure-work resembling lacework, which forms the ground, appears in the interstices bet ween the flower groups, and is arranged in right lines, producing a general effeet resembling paneling.

The group A is in the center of the photograph. It consists of a large leaf mass with occasional flowers. On the right is a scattered leaf cluster. Below, on the right, is a group of star-shaped flowers and projecting leafsprays, and asilnilargroup on the left. Above. on the left, is a large flower on a leaf mass, and having projecting leafand lichen sprays. ()n the right above is a drooping spray of blos soms.

The group 15 is shown at the upper and lower edges of the photograph. It consists of a large flower and leaf mass, fern-sprays above on the left, a. large rose and leaves above on the right, and an open flower having Greek crosses directly above it. Below the group are several small leaf and blossom sprays.

The group C is shown at the right lower and Term of patent 3 011s.

lrlt upper corners of the photograph. There is a. large star-shaped flower and large leaves at its center. Above, on the right, is a cluster of small star-shaped flowers. On the led are sprays ol'grapedeaves and tcndrils.

The group D is shown at the lelt center of the photograph and at the right above. A leaf niasslics below a singlestar-shaped flower. ()n the right above isa blossom cluster. Small tenth-itlike sprays project on all sides.

The group it] 1s shown at the lel't ot' the photograph below, and at the right above, the center. Three starshaped flowers lie on a. small lcal' mass. A lea't' spray projects on the left below, a blossom spray on the right. and above is a small tendrilslmot.
