Description

DESIGN.
H. HUNT.
CARPET.
8N0. 15,487. Patented Oct. 28, 1884.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15387, dated October 28, 1884.
Applieniion filed August 6, 1884.
To a. whom it may cancer/L:
Be it knownthat l', llnnnr ll our, of Greenville, New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a SPCCliiCZLUlOl'], reference being had to the accompanyi ug photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces such as car-- pets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures, herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
The design consists of four large gI'OlJPS, which, with their projecting sprigs, loosely fill in the intervening ground.
The group A is shown in the center of the photograph. It is aleai" and flower mass, with many and varied leaf and blossom sprays projecting in all directions, as shown, and two prominent figures---a square figure on the right below and a scalloped circular figure on the left below. This group does not include the large fan-like figure to the right of the center of the photograph nor the checkered ornament just above it to the left, both of which form part of the group C; but the group A does include the wavy ornament to the left of the fan-like figure, and the blossonrspray extending out toward and on theleft of the checkered ornament.
The group B is shown at the upper and lower parts of the photograph. It is an open group of flowers and leaves and blossom and lichen sprays. Below 011 the left is aprominent rightlined figure of irregular shape, having a lichenspray below it 011 its right and a single flower on its left, where it approaches the group D. The patch of mottled ground, which appears to underlie this single flower, and also a part of the group D, does not belong to either group. A leaf of this group B on the left above appears to conceal a part of a spray of lichen belonging to the group 0, and a leaf on the right appears to conceal, similarly, a part of a spray belonging to the group D; but there is no in terblending of the groups in either case, and there can be no confusion as to the limits of either.
Term of patent ll}, years.
The group (J is shown at the right of the photograph above and at the left below the center. .lt has a small leaf-a1[d flower mass above, with surrounding checkered and other small oruameni ation and short proj eeting [lower-figurcs. Below on the left is a large fanlilcc figure, with a checkered ornament above it and a lichen-spray below. Below the group is a mural ornament terminating in a small flower-figure, and to the right of that is a large scalloped figure, above which is a blossom and lichen cluster, the latter approaching the group 13.
The group I) is shown at the right of the photograph below and at the left above the center. There is a large circular figure to the left, and a flower mass above it and a leaf mass to the right. Above the group termi nates in a leaf and a blossom spray. On the right a leaf-spray approaches the group I 0 and a lichenspray approaches the group A. Be] ow on the right is a spray ofskeletou leaves, and on the left a cluster of blossoms and lichcnsprays approaching the group B. On the left above a leaf of this group approaches to the large square figure of the group A, but does not interblend with it.
I claim 1. The design for a carpet, consisting of the group A, substantially as shown and described.
2. The design for a carpet, consisting of the group 13, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for a carpet, consisting of the 8 5 group C, substantially as shown and de scribed.
4. The design for a carpet, consisting of the group D, substantially as shown and described.
5. The design for a carpet, consisting of the groups A, B, G, and D, substantially as shown and described.
HENRY HUNT.
