Claims (22)
- 한쪽 면에 전극을 갖는 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 상기 전극을 사이에 두고 유지된 액정층을 구비하고, 하나의 도트 영역 내에, 투과 표시를 행하는 투과 표시 영역과, 반사 표시를 행하는 반사 표시 영역이 마련되고, 상기 액정층은 유전 이방성이 부인 액정을 포함하고, 상기 반사 표시 영역의 액정층 두께는 상기 투과 표시 영역의 액정층 두께보다 얇게 형성된 액정 표시 장치로서,상기 한 쌍의 기판의 전극 중 적어도 한쪽 전극은 상기 도트 영역 내에서 복수의 섬 형상부와, 인접하는 상기 섬 형상부를 서로 전기적으로 접속하는 연결부를 갖고 있으며,상기 복수의 섬 형상부는 상기 투과 표시 영역과 상기 반사 표시 영역에 각각 정수개씩 배치되고,상기 액정층 두께가 상이한 경계 단차 영역은 상기 투과 표시 영역에 배치된 섬형상부와 상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬형상부 사이에 마련되고,상기 전극의 연결부는 상기 경계 단차 영역에 평면적으로 겹치도록 배치되어 있고,상기 도트 영역내에서, 상기 투과 표시 영역에 배치된 섬형상부와 상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬형사부와의 사이에는, 상기 전극이 배치되어 있지 않은 영역이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 섬 형상부는 상기 반사 표시 영역 및 투과 표시 영역 각각의 영역 내에서, 평면에서 보아 동일한 형상으로 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 섬 형상부의 평면 영역 내에, 전계 인가 시의 액정의 배향 상태를 제어하는 배향 제어 수단이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 수단은 상기 섬 형상부의 평면 영역의 중앙부에 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 도트 영역 내의 각 섬 형상부에 대응하여 상기 배향 제어 수단이 마련되고,상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부에 대응하는 배향 제어 수단은 상기 투과 표시 영역의 배향 제어 수단보다 작은 평면적을 갖고 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 수단은 상기 섬 형상부와 액정층을 거쳐 대향하는 전극에 마련된 개구부, 또는 해당 전극 상에 마련된 절연 재료로 이루어지는 돌기부인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 섬 형상부는 평면에서 보아 원형 또는 정다각형 형상인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 섬 형상부와 상기 연결부와의 접속 영역에서의 전극의 평면 형상은 상기 섬 형상부 측으로부터 상기 연결부 측으로 향하는 테이퍼 형상인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 연결부는 평면에서 보아 상기 섬 형상부의 외측에 볼록한 에지(edge) 또는 모서리부로부터 연장되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 도트 영역 내에, 상기 반사 표시 영역을 포함하여 부분적으로 마련된 반사막을 구비하고, 상기 반사막은 상기 투과 표시 영역을 제외하는 상기 도트 영역 내를 덮어 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 10 항에 있어서,상기 반사막은 상기 투과 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부의 평면 영역을 제외하는 도트 영역 내를 덮어 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 도트 영역마다 다른 색을 나타내는 복수 색 종류의 컬러 필터가 마련되어 있고, 상기 섬 형상부를 제외하는 도트 영역 내에, 2색 이상의 상기 컬러 필터가 적층되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,적어도 한쪽의 상기 기판의 액정층 측에 컬러 필터가 마련되어 있고,상기 컬러 필터는 상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부의 평면 영역 내에 개구 영역을 갖고,상기 개구 영역은 상기 경계 단차 영역 및 상기 섬 형상부의 주변 영역으로부터 평면적으로 이간되어 배치되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부는 상기 투과 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부보다 큰 평면적을 갖고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 도트 영역의 전극에 전기 신호를 공급하는 신호 배선이 상기 도트 영역의 에지부로 연장하고 있고,상기 투과 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부는 상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부에 비해, 상기 신호 배선으로부터 평면적으로 이간되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 15 항에 있어서,어느 하나의 상기 기판의 액정층 측면에, 도트 영역에 대응하여 상기 신호 배선 및 상기 전극과 전기적으로 접속된 2단자형 비선형 소자가 마련되어 있고,상기 신호 배선은 상기 도트 영역의 단변(短邊)을 따라 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 10 항에 있어서,상기 섬 형상부 및 연결부를 갖는 전극과 전기적으로 접속된 스위칭 소자를 구비하고,상기 반사막은 상기 스위칭 소자의 형성 영역까지 연장되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 10 항에 있어서,상기 반사막이 형성된 기판의 액정층 측에, 반사광을 산란시키는 광 산란 부여 수단이 마련되고,상기 광 산란 부여 수단은 상기 반사 표시 영역에 배치된 섬 형상부의 평면 영역에 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
