Description
[1-1]液晶表示装置の全体構成
図1は、本発明の第1実施形態に係る液晶表示装置1のブロック図である。液晶表示装置1は、液晶表示パネル2、バックライト(照明装置)3、走査線駆動回路4、信号線駆動回路5、共通電極ドライバ6、電圧生成回路7、及び制御回路8を備える。
本実施形態に係る液晶表示パネル2は、透過表示と反射表示とが可能な半透過型液晶表示パネルである。
ゲート電極GL、ソース電極16、ドレイン電極17、及び信号線SLとしては、例えば、アルミニウム(Al)、モリブデン(Mo)、クロム(Cr)、タングステン(W)のいずれか、又はこれらの1種類以上を含む合金等が用いられる。接続電極18、画素電極22-1、22-2、コンタクト23-1、23-2、及び共通電極26は、透明電極から構成され、例えばITO(インジウム錫酸化物)が用いられる。反射膜20-1、20-2としては、例えば、アルミニウム(Al)が用いられる。ゲート絶縁膜14、絶縁膜19、及び絶縁膜21は、透明な絶縁材料から構成され、例えばシリコン窒化物(SiN)が用いられる。膜厚調整層25-1、25-2は、透明な樹脂で構成される。突起27-1、27-2は、透明な樹脂で構成される。
次に、液晶表示パネル2の条件について説明する。図4は、液晶表示パネル2の条件を説明する模式図である。
次に、変形例について説明する。図7は、変形例に係る液晶表示パネル2の模式図である。
第1実施形態では、1個の画素が2個の部分画素領域PA1、PA2に分割される。部分画素領域PA1は、反射膜20-1及び膜厚調整層25-1が設けられた反射領域RA1と、これ以外の透過領域TA1とを有する。部分画素領域PA2は、反射膜20-2及び膜厚調整層25-2が設けられた反射領域RA2と、これ以外の透過領域TA2とを有する。反射領域RA1と透過領域TA1との境界は、膜厚調整層25-1により段差が生じる。反射領域RA2と透過領域TA2との境界は、膜厚調整層25-2により段差が生じる。そして、配向制御用の突起27-1は、部分画素領域PA1(画素電極22-1)のY方向における中心から膜厚調整層25-1側にずれて配置される。同様に、突起27-2は、部分画素領域PA2(画素電極22-2)のY方向における中心から膜厚調整層25-2側にずれて配置される。
第2実施形態は、1個の画素が3個の部分画素に分割された3分割画素の構成例である。
Claims (5)
- 第1及び第2基板と、
前記第1及び第2基板間に挟持され、無電界時に垂直配向(VA)となる液晶層と、
前記第1基板に設けられたスイッチング素子と、
前記第1基板に設けられ、前記スイッチング素子に接続され、第1方向に延びる接続電極と、
前記スイッチング素子の上方に絶縁膜を介して設けられた第1反射膜と、
前記第1反射膜の上方に絶縁膜を介して設けられ、平面視において前記第1反射膜と部分的に重なる第1画素電極と、
前記第1画素電極と前記第1方向に並んで配置された第2画素電極と、
前記第1及び第2画素電極と前記接続電極とをそれぞれ接続する第1及び第2コンタクトと、
前記第2基板に設けられ、平面視において前記第1反射膜と重なる第1膜厚調整層と、
前記第2基板及び前記第1膜厚調整層上に設けられた共通電極と、
前記共通電極上に設けられ、前記第1及び第2画素電極に対応して設けられた第1及び第2突起と、
を具備し、
前記第1突起は、前記第1画素電極の前記第1方向における中心から前記第1膜厚調整層側にずれて配置される
液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1反射膜と同じレベルに配置され、平面視において前記第2画素電極と部分的に重なる第2反射膜と、
前記第2基板に設けられ、平面視において前記第2反射膜と重なる第2膜厚調整層と、
をさらに具備し、
前記第2突起は、前記第2画素電極の前記第1方向における中心から前記第2膜厚調整層側にずれて配置される
請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1及び第2突起は、平面視において前記第1及び第2コンタクトにそれぞれ重なる
請求項1又は2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1突起と前記第1膜厚調整層との距離をL、前記第1膜厚調整層の高さをt、反射膜が形成されていない透過領域における前記液晶層の厚さをd、前記厚さdに対する前記高さtの比率をD(=t/d)とすると、
L×Dが4.9μm以下である
請求項1乃至3のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1反射膜の面積は、前記第1画素電極の面積の30%以下である
請求項1乃至4のいずれかに記載の液晶表示装置。
