また、電圧可変器2010は、EL駆動電源2009からの電圧を正もしくは負の値に変えることができ、これにより補正電位を制御することが可能である。
なお、本明細書中において、EL素子のTFTに接続されている一方の電極を画素電極とよび、他方の電極を対向電極と呼ぶ。スイッチ2015が入ると電圧可変器2010に制御される補正電位が対向電極に印加される。画素電極に印加されるEL駆動電位は、一定であるので、補正電位を制御することにより補正電位に基づく電流がEL素子を流れ、EL素子2003を所望の輝度に発光させることができる。
まず、センサー2011が周囲の情報をアナログ信号として検出し、得られたアナログ信号をA/D変換器2012によりデジタル信号に変換する。このデジタル信号は、CPU2013において変換される。CPU2013は、入力された信号に対して、あらかじめ設定しておいた比較データに基づきEL素子の発光輝度を補正するための補正信号に変換する。CPU2013に変換された補正信号は、D/A変換器2014に入力され再びアナログの補正信号に変換される。
この補正信号が電圧可変器に入力されることにより、電圧可変器2010が所定の補正電位を印加する。
にある時、電流制御用TFT108のゲート電圧を保持するために設けられている。また、コンデンサ112はスイッチング用TFT105のドレイン領域と電源供給線110とに接続されている。

逆に、陰極を画素電極として電源供給線に接続し、陽極を電圧可変器に接続した場合、EL駆動電位は補正電位よりも低いことが望ましい。
本実施の形態において、デジタルデータ信号が「0」の情報を有していた場合、電流制御用TFT108はオフ状態となり、電源供給線110に印加されているEL駆動電位はEL素子109が有する陽極(画素電極)に印加されない。

ここでは、アクリルをスピンコート法により成膜し、レジストマスクを用いて露光した後、エッチングを行うことにより図19(B)に示すようなコンタクトホール保護部1901を形成させる。
