Description
(1)表示領域では、液晶分子の配向方向が90度ずつ異なる4つの領域に分け、液晶分子の配向ベクトル場の特異点の位置を2次元的に規制することができる。
(2)信号線部では、柱状スペーサの周りに発生する斜め電界により、液晶分子の配向ベクトル場の特異点が柱状スペーサ周りに発生し、信号線部の液晶分子の配向を制御することができる。
(3)その結果、液晶表示パネル表面を押したとき、液晶分子の再配向を速やかに安定させることが可能となる。また信号線自体は直線状であるので信号線−画素電極間の寄生容量のばらつきは小さく、フリッカが発生しにくい。

Claims (16)
- 第1基板と、前記第1基板に対向するように配置された第2基板と、前記第1基板と前記第2基板間に挟持された負の誘電異方性を有する液晶層と、を備え、前記第1基板には互いに交差する複数の信号線および複数の走査線からなる配線部と、前記信号線および走査線によって区画化された各領域に設けられた画素電極と、前記画素電極ごとに設けられたスイッチング素子と、を備え、前記第2基板には共通電極を備えた垂直配向型の液晶表示装置において、前記画素電極は、サブ画素電極を複数連ねた構造を有し、前記共通電極上には、前記画素電極と前記共通電極間に電圧印加時に前記液晶層の液晶分子の配向を規制する十字型の第1の配向規制物が前記サブ画素電極に対向して複数設けられており、前記配線部には、柱状スペーサが配置されているとともに、前記柱状スペーサが設けられている前記配線部上の位置は、隣り合う2つの前記第1の配向規制物の先端部の中間であることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極は対称的な形状であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサは、前記配線部の前記信号線と重なる位置に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1〜2のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサは、前記配線部の前記走査線と重なる位置に設けられていることを特徴とする請求項1〜2のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサは前記第2基板上に設けられたものであることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサは前記第1基板上に設けられたものであることを特徴とする請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサの形状は四角柱、六角柱または八角柱であることを特徴とする請求項1〜6のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記共通電極に設けられている前記第1の配向規制物は、前記共通電極の電極不在部であることを特徴とする請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記電極不在部の幅は6μm以上、12μm以下であることを特徴とする請求項8に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記共通電極上に設けられている第1の配向規制物は、突起状構造物であることを特徴とする請求項1〜7のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記信号線または前記走査線と重なる位置でかつ前記柱状スペーサと重ならない位置の前記共通電極上にさらに前記液晶分子の配向を規制する突起状構造物の第2の配向規制物が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサと重ならない位置の前記信号線または前記走査線上に前記液晶分子の配向を規制する突起状構造物の第2の配向規制物が形成されていることを特徴とする請求項10に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記柱状スペーサは感光性アクリル樹脂を用いて形成されたものであることを特徴とする請求項1〜12のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1の配向規制物は、感光性アクリル樹脂を用いて形成されたものである請求項10〜12のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第2の配向規制物は、感光性アクリル樹脂を用いて形成されたものである請求項11または12に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記画素電極を備える画素領域の前記第1基板上に前記第2基板側から入射する光を反射する反射部を備えることを特徴とする請求項1〜15のいずれか一項に記載の液晶表示装置。
