本出願は、2015年11月30日に出願された韓国特許出願第10−2015−0168679号及び2016年11月30日に出願された韓国特許出願第10−2016−0161896号に基づいた優先権の利益を主張し、当該韓国特許出願の文献に開示されている全ての内容は本明細書の一部として含まれる。

(前記化学式(1)中、M1は、Al及びMnでなる群より選択される少なくともいずれか一つであり、M2は、Zr、Ti、Mg、Ta及びNbでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素であり、そして、M3は、W、Mo及びCrでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素であり、1.0≦a≦1.5、0<x≦0.5、0<y≦0.5、0.002≦z≦0.03、0≦w≦0.04、0<x+y≦0.7である)

(前記化学式(1)中、M1は、Al及びMnでなる群より選択される少なくともいずれか一つであり、M2は、Zr、Ti、Mg、Ta及びNbでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素であり、そして、M3は、W、Mo及びCrでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素であり、1.0≦a≦1.5、0<x≦0.5、0<y≦0.5、0.002≦z≦0.03、0≦w≦0.04、0<x+y≦0.7である)
このような特徴的な形状により、前記正極活物質はリチウムイオンの挿入及び脱離が容易であり、また、活物質粒子内でもリチウムイオンが速やかな速度で移動できるので、電池への適用時に一層向上された出力特性を示すことができる。より具体的には、前記正極活物質は、粒子の中心を通る長軸を含む断面が長方形である直方体の形状または平板型の形状を有することもできる。

(前記数式(1)中、Dn90は、活物質を蒸留水に入れて3時間放置した後、Microtrac粒度分析機を利用して吸収(absorbing)モードで90%基準下で測定した個数平均粒径であり、Dn10は、10%基準下で測定した個数平均粒径、そして、Dn50は、50%基準下で測定した個数平均粒径である)

(前記化学式(2)中、M1、M2、M3、x、y、z及びwは前記で定義した通りであり、0≦a≦0.5である)
60℃に設定された回分式バッチ(batch)型の5L反応器で、ニッケルスルフェート、コバルトスルフェート及びマンガンスルフェートを60:20:20のモル比で混合した後、水中で混合して2M濃度の金属含有溶液を準備した。
60℃に設定された回分式バッチ(batch)型の5L反応器で、ニッケルスルフェート、コバルトスルフェート、マンガンスルフェート及びマグネシウムスルフェートを水中で60:20:20:0.02のモル比で混合して2M濃度の金属含有溶液を準備し、また、ニッケルスルフェート、コバルトスルフェート、マンガンスルフェート及びマグネシウムスルフェートを水中で40:30:30:0.02のモル比で混合して2M濃度の第2金属含有溶液を準備した。金属含有溶液入りの容器は反応器に入るように連結し、第2金属含有溶液入りの容器は金属含有溶液容器に入るように連結した。さらに、4M NaOH溶液と7%濃度のNH4OH水溶液を準備してそれぞれ反応器に連結した。
60℃に設定された回分式バッチ(batch)型の5L反応器で、ニッケルスルフェート、コバルトスルフェート及びマンガンスルフェートを水中で60:20:20のモル比で混合して2M濃度の金属含有溶液を準備した。金属含有溶液入りの容器は反応器に入るように連結し、4M NaOH溶液と7%濃度のNH4OH水溶液を準備してそれぞれ反応器に連結した。共沈反応器(容量5L)に脱イオン水3リットルを入れた後、窒素ガスを反応器に2リットル/分の速度でパージして水中の溶存酸素を除去し、反応器内を非酸化雰囲気に造成した。以後、4M NaOHを100ml投入した後、60℃で1,200rpmの撹拌速度でpH 12.0になるように維持させた。以後、前記金属含有溶液を180ml/hr、NaOH水溶液を180ml/hr、NH4OH水溶液を10ml/hrの速度でそれぞれ投入し、24時間反応させて前駆体としてニッケルマンガンコバルト系複合金属水酸化物を形成した。
前記実施例1−1で、前記前駆体と、リチウム原料物質としてのリチウム水和物と、タングステン原料物質としてのタングステン酸化物(WO3)とを、M(Ni、Mn及びCoの合計):Li:Wのモル比が0.95:2.0:0.05になるように用いることを除き、前記実施例1−1と同様の方法で実施して正極活物質(Li1.07(Ni0.6Mn0.2Co0.2)0.95W0.05O2)を製造した。
前記実施例1−1で、前記前駆体とリチウム水酸化物とタングステン酸化物との混合後、ホウ素酸化物の存在下で熱処理する時に1050℃で10時間熱処理を行うことを除き、前記実施例1と同様の方法で実施して正極活物質(Li1.07(Ni0.6Mn0.2Co0.2)0.995W0.005O2)を製造した。
前記実施例1−1、1−2及び比較例1−1から1−3で製造した正極活物質をそれぞれ利用してリチウム二次電池を製造した。
前記実施例1−1で製造した正極活物質を走査電子顕微鏡で観察し、その結果を図1に示した。
また、前記実施例1−2で製造した正極活物質粒子に対して金属元素の分布を確認するため、HClを利用して多様な時間の間に活物質にエッチングを実施し、エッチング時間または溶解時間に応じた元素の溶出量を分析するICP分析を行った。その結果を下記表1に示した。
前記実施例1−1で製造した正極活物質に対して平均粒径、比表面積及び圧延密度を測定し、その結果を下記表2に示した。

前記実施例1−1及び比較例1−1から1−3で製造したそれぞれの正極活物質を利用して製造したコインセル(負極:Li金属)を、25℃で0.1Cの定電流(CC)4.25Vになるまで充電し、以後、4.25Vの定電圧(CV)で充電し、充電電流が0.05mAhになるまで1回目の充電を行った。以後、20分間放置した後、0.1Cの定電流で3.0Vになるまで放電して1サイクル目の放電容量を測定した。以後、2Cに放電条件を異にして充放電容量、充放電効率及びレート特性をそれぞれ評価した。その結果を下記表3に示した。
前記実施例1−1、及び比較例1−1から1−3での正極活物質をそれぞれ含むリチウム二次電池(実施例2−1及び比較例2−1から2−3)に対し、下記のような方法で電池特性を評価した。

- 下記化学式(1)のリチウム複合金属酸化物を含むモノリス構造の1次粒子であり、
平均粒径(D50)が2μmから20μmであり、BET比表面積が0.15m2/gから1.9m2/gであり、

前記化学式(1)中、M1は、Al及びMnでなる群より選択される少なくともいずれか一つであり、M2は、Zr、Ti、Mg、Ta及びNbでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素であり、そして、M3は、W、Mo及びCrでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素であり、1.0≦a≦1.5、0<x≦0.5、0<y≦0.5、0.002≦z≦0.03、0≦w≦0.04、0<x+y≦0.7である、二次電池用正極活物質。 - 前記化学式(1)中、0.4<x+y≦0.7である、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。
- ニッケル、M1及びコバルトのうち少なくともいずれか一つの金属元素は、前記二次電池用正極活物質内で変化する濃度勾配を示す、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。
- ニッケル、M1及びコバルトは、活物質全体にかけてそれぞれ独立して変化する濃度勾配を示し、
ニッケルの濃度は、活物質の中心から表面の方向に濃度勾配を有しながら減少し、そして、
コバルト及びM1の濃度は、それぞれ独立して活物質の中心から表面の方向に濃度勾配を有しながら増加する、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。 - 前記M1はマンガン(Mn)である、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。
- 前記二次電池用正極活物質は多面体の形状を有する、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。
- 前記二次電池用正極活物質は、下記数式(1)で定義される粒度分布値(Dcnt)が0.5から1.0であり、

前記数式(1)中、Dn90は、90%基準下で測定した個数平均粒径であり、Dn10は、10%基準下で測定した個数平均粒径であり、そして、Dn50は、50%基準下で測定した個数平均粒径である、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。 - 前記二次電池用正極活物質は、2ton・fの圧力下で3.0g/cc以上の圧延密度を有する、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質。
- ニッケル原料物質、コバルト原料物質及びM1原料物質(M1は、Al及びMnでなる群より選択される少なくともいずれか一つの元素である)を混合した後、反応させて前駆体を準備する段階、
前記前駆体とリチウム原料物質及びM3原料物質(M3は、W、Mo及びCrでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素である)をLi/Me(Me=前駆体内の金属元素とM3元素の合計)のモル比が2.0以上になるように混合した後、ボロン系焼成添加剤の存在下で700℃から900℃で焼成する段階、及び、
焼成の結果で収得された結果物に対し、最終的に製造される正極活物質におけるLi/Me’(Me’=正極活物質内のリチウムを除いた金属元素の合計)のモル比が1.0から1.5になるように水洗した後、150℃から400℃で乾燥する段階を含む、請求項1に記載の二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。 - 前記前駆体の準備段階または焼成段階で、M2原料物質(M2は、Zr、Ti、Mg、Ta及びNbでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上の元素を含む)をさらに添加する請求項9に記載の二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。
- 前記前駆体は、ニッケル原料物質、コバルト原料物質及びM1原料物質を混合して製造した金属含有溶液に、アンモニウム陽イオン含有錯体形成剤及び塩基性化合物を添加して共沈反応させることによって製造されるものである、請求項9に記載の二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。
- 前記金属含有溶液に対し、前記金属含有溶液とは互いに異なる濃度でニッケル原料物質、コバルト原料物質及びM1原料物質を含む第2金属含有溶液をさらに添加する請求項11に記載の二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。
- 前記ボロン系焼成添加剤が、ホウ酸、四ホウ酸リチウム、酸化ホウ素及びホウ酸アンモニウムでなる群より選択されるいずれか一つまたは二つ以上を含む、請求項9に記載の二次電池用正極活物質の製造方法。
- 請求項1から8のいずれか一項に記載の二次電池用正極活物質を含む二次電池用正極。
- 請求項14に記載の二次電池用正極を含むリチウム二次電池。
