Abstract

697,026. Feeding webs. DURRANT & SONS, Ltd., G. and DURRANT. C. L. Dec. 14, 1951 [Nov. 22, 1950], No. 28493/50. Class 100(i) Straightening weft.-In a weft-straightening machine of the kind in which the fabric passes over pairs of rollers 7, the angularity of the pairs being mutually adjustable by rotation of an oscillatable shaft 10, e.g. as described in Specification 416,949, oscillation of the shaft 10 is effected by an electric motor 26, the mechanical connection between motor and shaft having a limited travel and incorporating a slipping clutch. The shaft 10 is fixed to a lever 18 which slidably engages a trunnion 17 fixed on a toothed quadrant 16 pivoted at 15 on a sub-frame 13 built out from the machine. The segment 16 meshes with a worm gear 19 on a shaft 21 carrying a pulley 22. The pulley 22 is connected by a U-belt 23 with a pulley 24 on the spindle 25 of the motor 26. The motor is mounted on a platform 27 adjustable along machine tie-rods 12. The pulley 22 is rotatably mounted on the shaft 21, driving connection being established by slipping-clutch discs 32 and spring 33. Limit stops 31 are provided for the quadrant 16. The motor is connected to a supply point through a reversing contactor 28 and a pushbutton controller 29 is provided which may be mounted on or adjacent the motor 26 or in a remote position.
