Abstract
597,447. Driving looms. FROST, W. H. Aug. 18, 1945, No. 21117. [Class 142 (i)] Means for turning a loom comprise a worm which is normally out of gear with the wheel on which it operates to turn the loom and which can be put into gear with such wheel by the operator and turned to impart any required movement to the loom in either direction. In the form shown, the worm A is fixed on a shaft B which is rotatably mounted at its rear end in a lug C so as to be capable of a slight angular movement, the shaft B having slidably mounted thereon a block K' in which is rotatably mounted an eccentric sheave rotatable about a fixed pin M, spring means normally exerting a turning movement on the sheave to keep the worm in its out-of-gear position. The sheave has a plate P attached thereto which can be turned by a handle P' to put the worm into gear with a toothed wheel G, which may be the driving wheel on the top shaft of the loom, a hand wheel R being provided to rotate the worm shaft to turn the loom in either direction. Additional gearing may be provided to ease the turning of the hand wheel or the worm shaft may be motor-driven.
