Abstract

627,939. Drive of calendering machines for paper &c. GALLOWAY & CO., Ltd., J., and BUTLER, J. Aug. 22, 1947, No. 23262. [Class 96] [Also in Group XXIV] The bottom roller of a calender of a papermachine &c. is driven by a belt 8, pulley 5, and gears 3, 2, a cradle 7 pivoted about the drive-shaft 1 being moved upwardly to slacken the belt 8 and thus stop the drive, whereupon the drive-shaft 1 may be turned by releasing a stop 14 pivoted at 15, moving a shaft 9 axially so that a pinion 10 engages the gear 2, and turning a hand-wheel 12, e.g. to free the bottom calender roller of paper wrapped about it.
