Abstract

585,852. Spinning-mules. CHARLESWORTH, H. Dec. 6, 1944, No. 24364. [Class 120 (ii)] In a self-acting mule, the spindle drive cylinder is driven by a variable-speed electric motor mounted on the carriage b, with flexible connections to a control panel on the machine frame a, enabling the spindle speed to be varied during the draw by a speed control lever p which is pivoted centrally and transmits movement by rack and pinion to shaft r connected to the control panel. The roller p<1> runs in contact with a steering surface of a drum h which is mounted on the frame and rotates backwardly and forwardly with the runs of the carriage. The steering surface comprises a number of peripheral links m, the points of articulation being adjustable, by set screws j, in transverse slots h' in the drum h, the slots being graduated in terms of spindle speeds and marked with the distance each represents from the commencement of the draw.
