Abstract
670,540. Double-twist spindles. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and WEST, V. F. Aug. 16, 1950 [Aug. 17, 1949], No. 21392/49. Class 120(ii) A double-twist spindle assembly comprises a double-twist spindle including a bobbin carrier 2 freely mounted on a live hollow spindle 5 which is slotted to permit. withdrawal of the thread 4 and also carries a cup 1 surrounding the lower end of the bobbin carrier, a permanent magnet 10 within the bobbin carrier, at one point outside the periphery of the carrier a fixed magnet or fixed block of magnetizable material 11 so mounted as normally to cooperate with the magnet 10 and hold the carrier stationary. and at a second point adjacent the periphery of the carrier a stop mechanism for the carrier including a second magnet or block of magnetizable material so mounted as to be operated by the magnet in the carrier if and when the carrier rotates due to abnormal conditions. As shown the block of magnetizable material of the stop mechanism is a brake block 15 carried by a leaf spring 14 and having a pin 16 extending towards the spindle which pin engages in a notch 17 in the carrier. Operation of the stop mechanism may effect cutting or breaking of the yarn. The Provisional Specification states that a yarn tensioning device consisting of two inverted cups, one of which is free to slide within the other against the action of a spring between them, may be plugged into the top of the yarn holder. Specifications 299,860, [Class 120(ii)], and 590,182 are referred to.
