Abstract
534,607. Opening envelopes; unpacking. MAKKONEN, H. V. April 1, 1940, No. 5848. Convention date, April 13, 1939. [Class 146 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] An envelope - tearing ribbon 3 secured to the inside of the envelope is so arranged that the envelope will be torn open along or adjacent an edge, first in one direction and then in another. The ribbon extends from one edge nearly to the other edge and is then folded back and projects through a hole 5, preferably triangular to form a tab 4. The tab may be loose, glued down, or covered over. A separate thread may be secured to the ribbon to assist the tearing. Oblique perforations may extend in the direction of tearing from longitudinal holes which may be wholly on the flap or partly on the flap and partly on the front of the envelope. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, states also that the ribbon may have two branches extending in both directions from the tab 4 and opening the envelope one by one or both together. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
