Abstract
800,378. Envelopes. FANFOLD, Ltd. Sept. 7, 1954 [Nov. 26, 1952], No. 29975/52. Class 146(2) A corner portion 19 of the cover flap 11 of an envelope is rendered detachable by means of a line of weakening 15 which extends from a point on the front edge 16 of the flap spaced inwardly from one side edge 17 thereof and terminates at a point located at or near the intersection of that side edge with the fold line 18 of the flap, the line of weakness extending at all parts of its length in a direction perpendicular to the fold line 18 or laterally of that direction so as to approach the side edge 17. The line of weakness, which may be formed by perforations or slits, is shown in Fig. 1 extending to the point of intersection, and in other Figures to points on line 18 or edge 17 near the intersection. In Fig. 5 the line 15 extends parallel to the side edge 17 to the fold line and then along the fold line to the point of intersection. In a pay envelope the construction is such that when portion 19 is detached currency notes 12 are partially exposed for counting but the contents, including coins, cannot be removed. Adhesive 13 may be applied the whole length of the underside of flaps 11, or to the non-detachable part only, as in Fig. 1. A continuous web of such envelopes may be formed by superimposing web portions 20 and 21, adjacent envelopes being separated by lines of weakening 22, conveniently formed after the portions 20, 21 have been joined by adhesive applied to one or both portions at 23, 24. If desired the region 24 may extend to the edge of the envelope. Feed holes 25 are provided in the margins before or after the portions 20, 21 have been joined. The line of weakening 28 for removing the corner portion, 19 may be arranged as shown, in Fig. 6, or may be made stronger than the transverse line of weakening 22, to prevent removal of the corner portion 19 when the envelopes are separated. Alternatively a continuous web of envelopes may be formed by folding a broad one piece web. A line of weakening may extend along the whole of the fold line 18 to facilitate opening. Specification 536,628 is referred to.
