Envelopes. - In envelopes &c. of the kind wherein a lining bearing concealed advertising or other matter is provided with a tongue or tab to direct attention to its presence when the envelope is opened, the lining 4, Fig. 1, has an extension at one end attached to the gummed sealing-flap, so that after the envelope has been opened by cutting or tearing along the fold 6 of the flap, the lining may be withdrawn by pulling upon the tab 5. The lining consists of thin and preferably coloured paper, and when its length exceeds the depth of the envelope its free end is folded beneath its main portion to lie adjacent to the front of the envelope, the advertising matter being on the unexposed side of the lining. The tab 5, conveniently made of coloured tape, is adhesively secured to the hidden side of the lining at a point below the fold line, with its free end between the sealing-flap and the extension of the lining. The tab offers less resistance to being withdrawn than it does to being cut, and consequently projects beyond the open end of the envelope when the flap is cut or torn. In a modification, Fig. 6, means are provided for withdrawing the letter or enclosure together with the lining 4 by attaching to the lining one end of a thin paper flap 7, the other end of which is attached to the flap 3 which forms the back of the envelope when the blank is folded. The flap 7 forms a lining for the back of the envelope, so that a letter inserted in the usual way is located between the withdrawable lining 4 and the flap 7.
