Abstract
443,253. Vehicle bodies. FISHER, G. L., 561, Old Kent Road, London. Oct. 17, 1934, No. 29769. [Class 108 (i)] In vehicles of the kind for conveying refuse or other loads which are loaded manually over the top of a tailboard a step is provided to facilitate loading and is adapted to be moved vertically to or near a position at the top of the vehicle body so as to be out of the way. As shown a step 12 is provided in conjunction with a tailboard which is also movable vertically. The tailboard comprises a part 1 to which is hinged the flap 2 and the part 1 is provided with side members 4 adapted to be guided by means of rollers 5 in guideways 3. As the tailboard is raised a lever 6 on the flap 2 is adapted to engage a stop 8 to turn the flap 2 into the open position while when the tailboard is lowered its final movement causes the flap to become vertical, owing to the stop 9 contacting with a cam slot 100 on the lever, and allow the pins 11 to enter apertures on the body. The step 12 is provided with side levers 13 hinged to slides 4 which are adapted to be raised by chains &c., either manually or from the vehicle power unit. As the slides are raised stops 15 cause the levers 13 to rotate and bring the step 12 into the vertical position, rollers 16 engaging guides 3. Continued vertical movement of the step and slide eventually causes the slides 4 to lift the tailboard which at the top is opened beneath the lower edge of the step 2.
