[Class 78 (iv)] [See also Group XXXII] A hinged tailboard, door or ramp for vehicles, fanlights and trapdoors is held in closed, lowered or intermediate position by means of one or more than one floating spring compressibly associated with a lever during lowering and extensively associated with the same lever during raising, the said lever constantly and slidably abutting against the door &c. The tailboard 2 hinged at the bottom to the vehicle floor is provided with a pair of channel guides 3, 4 against which bear levers 9, 10 pivoted at 13, 14 to brackets 7, 15, 16 and 8, 17, 18 and acted upon by counterbalancing helical springs through rods 24 and links. In a brewer's dray, the tailboard may be replaced by two hinged ramps which are removably hinged to the rear of the dray and operated upon by the levers and springs. The springs and levers may also be applied to the surface openings leading to cellars for facilitating the supply to a removal therefrom of kegs and barrels, the hinged drop-down doors or ramps being removably attachable to the pavement opening or cellar roof. The springs are such that the tailboard or ramp can be maintained in any intermediate position.
