Abstract
353,754. Rotary furnaces. WEISS, E., Wethmar, near Lunen-on-Lippe, Germany. Sept. 13, 1930, No. 27393. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1929. [Class 51 (ii).] charging.-In a rotary furnace for smelting iron and other metals which is mounted to rotate on an inclined axis, an opening at the upper end of the furnace serves both for the introduction of heating-gases and for charging, while the exhaust flue for the waste gases is at the lower end. The burner F with its accessory fittings, and rails T carrying a charging scoop L, are so mounted that they can be raised from the firing position shown to a charging position, at which the scoop L can be moved into the furnace on the rails T and inverted to deposit a charge. The combustion chamber G is connected to the burner by a rotating joint, so that in the firing position the furnace and combustion chamber will rotate as one. The furnace is made of slightly tapering form, and the end cover W at the wider end is spring-pressed against the lining to allow differential expansion of the lining and outer casing.
