Abstract
537,539. Burning time. ORTHOSTYLE, Ltd., and SIMPSON, J. F. April 3, 1940, No. 10441/39. [Class 51 (ii)] A method of burning lime consists in placing a layer of solid fuel on the lime and passing air downwards through the ignited fuel so that combustion products and gases pass downwards through the lime. An arrangement of kilns for carrying out the method is shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and comprises a battery of four kilns 10, 11, 12, 13, air being passed upwardly through a recently burnt charge in the kiln 10 and conducted through a rotatable conduit 66, to the top of the kiln 11 for the combustion of fuel placed on top of the charge. The burning gases pass downwardly through the kiln 11 to the damper controlled connecting flue 31 and thence up through the freshly charged kiln 12 from the top of which they are conveyed through a rotatable conduit 65 adapted to be rotated about the axis of a flue 63 communicating with an exhaust fan 61 delivering to a chimney flue 62. The kiln 13 is in a condition to be recharged or emptied. The bottom ends of the kilns have interconnected damper controlled conduits in communication with the atmosphere through damper controlled openings 24, 34, 44, 54.
