Abstract

741,201. Tilting furnaces. SKLENAR FURNACES, Ltd. Aug. 20, 1954 [Sept. 10, 1953], No. 25089/53. Class 51 (2). A small, tilting, metal melting-furnace of generally U-shaped configuration comprises a refractory lined shell and tiltably mounted on a frame 4, and having a gas or oil burner 12 mounted in a port 11 at the top of the limb 10, the other limb 9 acting as a charging and preheating shaft and an offtake for the waste gases. An alloy charging and working opening 14 near the foot of the limb 9 is closed by a door 15 and a pouring spout 13 is disposed below the said opening. A blower 21 supplies combustion air through a pipe 23. coiled round the charging opening 19 to form a simple recuperator, and fuel is supplied to the burner through a valve-controlled flexible pipe 25. The furnace is manually tilted by an arm 5.
