Overlap joints with packing compressed radially on assembly; spigot-and-socket joints held by cement and the like.-In a spigot-and-socket pipe joint in which the spigot 4 and the socket 5 are formed in the thickness of the walls of the pipes 2, 3, fluid-tightness is secured by means of a rubber &c. ring 7 which is rolled in and laterally compressed between the spigot and socket parts by sliding the pipes together. The conical angle of the spigot is preferably made greater than that of the socket to assist entry of the packing ring, while the annular cavity between the pipes which is not occupied by said ring may be filled with bitumen &c. 8;
