Abstract

525,153. Pipe joints. TURNER & NEWALL, Ltd., TURNER, L. A., and WRIGHT, H. LAW-. Feb. 15, 1939, No. 4995. [Class 99 (i)] In a joint for asbestos-cement pipes a packing ring 17 is compressed in a tapered recess in each end of a sleeve 3 of asbestos-cement by a gland ring 4 which is screwed, preferably by threads of the buttress type, into the sleeve and is also of asbestos-cement. The packing rings are normally of smaller internal diameter than the external diameter of the pipes. Buffers 19 between the pipe ends may comprise lugs projecting from a rubber ring secured in the sleeve, or, as shown, may be lugs on webs 16 joining the two packing rings. Specification 466,022 is referred to.
