Abstract
705,688. Pipe joints. NORMAN, J. W. E., and NORCON, Ltd. May 8, 1952 [May 10, 1951], No. 11017/51. Class 99 (1). A concrete &c. pipe adapted to be joined to similar pipes by spigot-and-socket joints has a socket end formed with two steps 4, 5 providing recesses 7, 8 of which the inner recess 7 tapers outwardly towards the mouth, and has a spigot end with one step 6 and a tapered end 9 to fit the taper of the rcess 7. A recess 19 in the step 6 holds a seating ring 12 which is compressed by the socket step 5, and a' grouting space 14 is provided in the outer socket recess. The spigot abuts the step 4. A short cylindrical part 10 extends from the recess 19 to the tapered part 9. The taper angle of the recess 7 is from 20 degrees to 30 degrees. The recess 8 may also be tapered, but at a lesser angle. A grouting apron 16 and a removable filler in the form of a bent strip 18 are provided.
