Paper and like bags, making.-Relates to machines, for making and filling packets with tea, tobacco, seeds, &c., and of the kind in which a bag is formed into a tube open at the top and bottom on the stem of a charging funnel, closed at the bottom, and transferred to a mould in which the top is folded and from which the complete packet is ejected. The funnel J, mould E, and the second, third, and fourth folders may be arranged and operated as described in Specifications 193,405 and 219 091. The paper P is disposed as a tube open at both ends and with the lower edges projecting below the bottom of the funnel. A bar E is advanced and carries with it blades F, G, pivoted at e<5>, e<6>, and adapted to make the first folds on the bottom of the bag in process of formation in the funnel, and the top of the filled bag in the mould respectively. Towards the end of the movement, a roller f<3> on a tail f<1> contacts with a cam surface a<3> to rock the blade F into a horizontal position. The blade G is similarly moved by the engagement of a trigger g<3> with a stop a<4>. The charge of tea, &c. is then delivered into the funnel and the second and third folders operate on the ends of the bags, the first folders remaining in the advanced position meanwhile to support the charge and to co-operate with the second and third folders to prevent leakage of the material into the ears of the package. The fourth folder advances simultaneously with the withdrawal of the first folder and supports the bag on the funnel until it is transferred to the mould.
