[Class 94 (i)] In closing the open end of a wrapper that has been applied to an article or batch of cigarettes to form a blockended container, the narrow end folds are made and the broad flaps are folded outwardly, adhesive is applied and the flaps closed in. As shown, the partly wrapped articles B are fed into pockets 5 in a drum 4 by a pusher piece 3 on a conveyer chain, which is tripped backwardly out of engagement to allow folders 6, Fig. 7, to move across the open end of the wrapper and to form the narrow end folds 10, and one broad end flap 11 extending outwards at right angles to the adjacent face of the packet so as to rest on the surface of the drum. The drum now makes a rotational step, during which the upper flap 11 is retained in position by a plate 12 which shrouds the drum and also opens out and forms the lower flap. Lines of adhesive 11<a> are applied to the flaps 10 and the upper flap by a gearwheel with segmental portions 15 projecting through an opening 16 in the plate 12. The flaps 10 spring upwards after passing out of the control of spring guides 116, and are folded down by reciprocating folders, after which a folder 20 turns the lower flap 11 over into engagement with the flaps 10. The upper flap 11 is turned down, during the next rotational step of the drum, by a plate or a brush 24. The wrapped package is removed by a plunger in a direction parallel to the axis of the drum, and is then thrust into a stacker. The drum and the stacker may be provided with heaters to secure adhesion.
