Abstract
219,091. Day, A. April 18, 1923. Addition to 198,405. Paper and like bags, making.-In machines. for making and filling packets, and of the type described in the parent Specification, the "former" described in the parent Specification is vertically reciprocable and moves with the fourth folder, the slotted mould being stationary and having a hinged bottom to allow the packet to be pushed on to an ejector platform below. The former A, Fig. 2, is vertically reciprocated by a link a<2> and the mould B is fixed to the frame by a bracket b<1>. The bottom b<3> of the mould has a T-shaped slot, Fig. 4, and is periodically withdrawn by a rod b<4>. or may be pivoted and swung aside at intervals. The fourth folder C, Figs. 2 and 3, is T-shaped in plan and moves to the left from the position shown in Fig. 2 to make the fourth end fold of the bag in process nf formation on the former, and of the packet in the mould. The folder then descends simultaneously with the former and forces the completed packet out of the mould, a step D on a downward extension 218 supporting it during the descent. The packet is placed on an ejector platform E, Figs. 2 and 5, slotted at e<1> to allow the step D to pass, and is moved into a trough e<2> by an ejector F. At the same time that the folder C forces the packet downwards from the mould, the former descends and the bag thereon is transferred to the mould, the charge being rammed before, during, or after the transference. In a modification, the platform E may rise to receive the packet from the mould, and descend to bring it to the ejecting position.
