About this audiobook

Two women. An office filled with secrets. One terrible crime that can't be taken back.

Dawn Schiff is strange.

At least, everyone thinks so at Vixed, the nutritional supplement company where Dawn works as an accountant. She never says the right thing. She has no friends. And she is always at her desk at precisely 8:45 a.m.

So when Dawn doesn't show up to the office one morning, her coworker Natalie Farrell―beautiful, popular, top sales rep five years running―is surprised. Then she receives an unsettling, anonymous phone call that changes everything…

It turns out Dawn wasn't just an awkward outsider―she was being targeted by someone close. And now Natalie is irrevocably tied to Dawn as she finds herself caught in a twisted game of cat and mouse that leaves her wondering: who's the real victim?

But one thing is incredibly clear: somebody hated Dawn Schiff.

Enough to kill.

The Coworker is a tense, unputdownable thriller from New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden that explores the dark ways the past can echo through the present―with deadly consequences.

What our readers think

Readers find this title to be a thrilling and entertaining read. The plot twists and unexpected turns keep readers engaged, and the well-developed characters add depth to the story. The narration is praised for its skillful delivery. However, some reviewers found the talk about turtles and the format of the emails to be annoying. Despite these minor flaws, the book is highly recommended for fans of the author's previous works and those who enjoy suspenseful thrillers. Overall, it is a page-turner with a satisfying ending.

I listened to the audiobook, and I have to say, reading the entire email, subject included, got so annoying and made it hard to follow. As for the story itself, it was ok but fairly predictable. And as usual, there are no likable characters.

This is my first read by this author and she's a good story teller but some truly illogical holes bring down the rating. It's a fast paced read and enjoyable for a day on the beach.

I was hooked all the way until the end! Yes there were surprising twists however the way everything tied together in the epilogue just fell flat to me.

Frieda is my favorite writer! I have trouble reading other books because I’ve binged her books and I love her style. This storyline wasn’t my favorite. I had to buy the audio version to finish it. I still love Frieda and have loved every other book I have read of hers.

I always like McFadden’s books because they’re quick reads but I have to say, the narration is almost uniformly AWFUL for her audio books. There are some I start and have to immediately return because I can’t listen because the narration is so bad.

I have recently found this author and am working my way through them all. I have extremely enjoyed all of them, just not this one so much. The monotonous emails were very irritating after the first few; however, other than that, I did enjoy the twists and turns of the plot.

This as one of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. The right amount of suspense, mystery and with a couple of twists I didn’t see coming. The narrator was also great!

The ending was very good and surprising. I didn’t like dawns voice but could see where it had to be appropriate and it did really show what someone with ocd and autism who may have been socially awkward would act. I didn’t buy the bullying someone with cerebral palsey and a medical condition in a high school- where teachers would have sided with the bullies- just not believable. I could have bought that with someone who was a nerd or awkward but someone in a wheel chair - that seemed like a stretch.

Narrator was very monotone and not exciting to listen to at all. Took a lot for me to listen to the whole book because she just didn't have any expression in the voice throughout the whole book. Okay storyline. Not like the others I'm used to from her

Well written narrative & keeps you guessing at first but the idea of the whole plot is a bit messed up. Only one thing is for certain with McFadden's books, noone is ever what they seem & murderes, liars and cheats somehow get away with it! Narrator was really good.
