Did anyone else catch the 3 references to Alanis Morissette's song "Ironic"?

I have read almost all of her books. Even tho this was just a short story it was not anything like her books. Didn’t like it.

Wow! It reminds me of a similar story like the gift of the magi, but wow, what a twist! I loved it.

Frieda must have been going through an Alanis Morissette “Ironic” phase because I couldn’t help but to notice verses of that song in this book. I truly loved the short listen. I heard Alanis’ voice many times!

This was a decent short read...a bit cliche and confusing in the beginning but by the end ot became a decent read. The narrator had to grow on me. The old lady was much needed in this short and was more of the star than the leading lady.

It is amazing how so much can happen a short story. Frieda McFadden did a great job with this one. I was rooting for Stella all the way up to the end.

I honestly believed it was just a retelling of the 'O'Henry's Full House' story about the haircomb and watch chain. It isn't. Keep listening!

Good short story! Fun way to pass the time while doing housework. When the monkey’s paw was mentioned, I figured we were going through the same story we’ve all heard before… when the main character was on her way home from the shop, I thought we were in for yet another storyline that we’ve all heard before.. but when we got into the POV from the other “main character”, that’s when I realized very quickly that this storyline was completely different than what I was expecting, and as a pleasant surprise, it was not what I was expecting at all. Great little twist. Love short stories like this!

Frieda McFadden has amazing skills as a writer. I am used to her stories where the main character wins. This was tragic for the main character you have come to care about.

A very high 3.5 stars ? Well damn Helga! I guess it's all about the mother's love or whatever.

    Fast paced and intriguing!

Creepy Helga was giving Leland Gaunt vibes from Stephen King’s Needful Things, which is very good and I highly recommend it. The twist at the end of this was fitting.
