LMS

The Florida Virtual School has partnered with Giunti Laboratories and Blackboard to implement an innovative learning content management system (LCMS) to meet the ever-changing needs of their more than 130,000 students worldwide. This global partnership will enable students and teachers to access personal learning content anytime and anywhere, delivered on the device of choice and adapted to the unique background skills and learning needs of each student.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) denotes a branch of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy grounded within Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction wherein one “attends to and purposefully manages one’s awareness of what is happening” (Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy: An Informational Resource 2012). MBCT research supports efficacy of practice (Evans et al., 2008) as psychoeducational training, and easily incorporates into any environment, functioning in adaptations of self-reflection. Further findings support MBCT as beneficial for anger, Attention-Deficit Disorder, disease, self-esteem, overall well-being, and others (Evans et al., 2008). Although institutional and workforce contexts are noting myriad MBCT benefits, educational settings are not. As MCBT research surges and practice spreads, most educational institutions lack widespread student mental health care; for example, The Department of Health and Human Services notes 11.5% of children aged 12-17 receive mental care in school (Working Together to Help Youth Thrive in Schools and Communities: Systems of Care, 2010). Best as daily practice and routine, MBCT potentialities cannot be disregarded in a country wherein school violence and drop-out rates continues to rise. A Government initiative of such practice exemplifies its importance, reporting statically significant changes in attendance, depression, success, expulsion, and other benefits—MBCT results are staggering, and the practices simple. This research reviews the aforementioned, offering a practical and engaging example of MBCT classroom integration using the student selfie (also connected to self-esteem and personality) to foster individual awareness and interpersonal connections.

Η περιβαλλοντική εκπαίδευση αποτελεί αναγκαιότητα αλλά και πρόκληση στη σημερινή εποχή. Η ανάληψη και εκπόνηση σχολικών προγραμμάτων περιβαλλοντικής εκπαίδευσης συχνά καθίσταται δύσκολη καθώς πολλοί εκπαιδευτικοί δεν έχουν αρκετή αυτοπεποίθηση τόσο στις γνώσεις όσο και στις δεξιότητές τους. Επιπλέον, η εκπόνηση και η διαχείριση προγραμμάτων περιβαλλοντικής φύσης βρίσκει πολλές φορές εμπόδια, ιδιαίτερα όταν πρόκειται για περιβαλλοντικά ζητήματα κάπως πιο εξειδικευμένα και απαιτητικά, όπως είναι ο σχολικός κήπος. Το παρόν βιβλίο στοχεύει στην ενδυνάμωση όλων των εκπαιδευτικών που θα αποφασίσουν να εμπλακούν με τους μαθητές τους ενεργά σε μια τόσο δημιουργική εργασία, όπως είναι η δημιουργία και η συντήρηση ενός κήπου στο πλαίσιο της σχολικής κοινότητας.

From 2001 to the fall of 2006, the lecturers and students of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago, used WebCT, a commercial web based learning management system (LMS), to prepare, manage and deliver learning content and resources to students. The low level of adoption and high cost of the license led University Administrators to question the benefit to cost ratio. A committee was formed to compare open source LMSs (Moodle, Sakai, and Angel) to WebCT and based on this data, recommend a LMS for the St. Augustine Campus. Based on their review of the pricing, hardware/software requirements, communication tools, productivity tools, opportunities for student involvement, administrative tools, course development and curriculum design features, the committee chose to adopt Moodle. This paper will describe our Moodle implementation strategy and will reflect on the issues as well as successes arising over the last two years.

Earthquakes are unpredictable disasters in nature. During seismic energy is suddenly released into the earth's lithosphere and creates seismic waves, these waves are elastic waves that can pass through a medium by modifying it according to the intensity of the earthquake. Therefore, seismic signals are very contaminated by noise, which is a set of permanent ground vibrations, due to a multitude of causes (Signal-to-noise ratio of the seismic signal is very low.). So noise is a component of seismograms (signals recorded by seismometers), generally undesirable and difficult to interpret. Since the frequency characteristics of local noise are superimposed on the seismic signal, the use of analog or digital frequency filtering is one of the effective means of eliminating unwanted signals. Preprocessing techniques are used in order to reduce noise. In this work the LMS filter is implemented to filter the noise of the seismic signal, as well as the identification of the filter coefficients.

In universities’ distance education centers, LMS and Student Information Systems (SIS) are discrete systems. Generally enrollment is performed on SIS; with student authentication, selection and supervisor confirmation. It has been a problem to move enrollments from SIS side to LMS side. The basic way is to perform the enrollment by hand. But amount of record can be huge for different infrastructures. So on Learning Management System (Moodle), automatic and easier course enrollment has been aimed. This paper has focused on integrating two different systems with separated data. The solution, which was performed and used for the integration, has been analyzed in this study. Used data which has been obtained from SIS, implemented approach, developed software running principles and presentation has been performed.
